Logitech Rock the Schools Tour
Australia's longest running free education and entertainment tour, Logitech Rock The Schools, is warming up to hit the road for its biggest ever national tour, which will visit 90 schools around the country, reaching over 70,000 high-school students all around Australia.
Kicking off in Sydney on Monday May 2, Logitech Rock the Schools will provide our country's future music and entertainment professionals with a unique insight into the industry's many careers. The action packed day includes hands-on workshops for senior music students with industry professionals from the Australian Institute of Music. The whole school will then be treated to a lunchtime concert from the up and coming Logitech Rock the Schools bands.
"In 2011, Logitech Rock the Schools will cover more of Australia and will entertain and educate more students then ever before! We are really excited about rocking into our sixth year of inspiring the next generation of Australian music industry professionals. Through the generous support of Logitech, the Australian Institute of Music, the Australian Government's National Drugs Campaign and Ubisoft 's Just Dance 2, this year we are able to offer this fantastic program free to 90 schools ," Frances Corkhill, Project Director of Schools Tours Australia said.
Touring for the first leg of the tour, is Adelaide band Delamare who are no strangers to playing to crowds around the country, having toured nationally with some of Australia's most loved bands including the Presets, Operator Please, Pete Murray and Faker. With a fantastic fan base, Delamare will prove to be a crowd pleaser as they take their music and performing experience to schools in NSW, ACT and VIC.
Following a massive 2010 which saw them making waves at numerous festivals all over Australia, local Melbourne band Red Ink will take the tour from regional VIC to SA and back to NSW with the pop-rock quartet bringing their energetic on-stage presence and new single, "What My Friends Say" to thousands of students in regional and suburban schools.
The third leg of the tour through NSW and QLD will see Sydney's Northern Beaches band, Feeding Edgar, entertain the students with their trademark melodic rock sound and well-known hit, "Foot to the Floor." Runners up in Triple J Unearthed, the four guys are already proving to have an established following in QLD and they look forward to joining the Rock The Schools tour to visit the flood-affected state, checking out the rebuilding that is going on in some of the regional and suburban schools.
The fourth and final leg of the Logitech Rock the Schools tour will head cross-country to WA and be joined by the winning band of the Nova I am with the Band competition. A nationwide search to unearth Australia's hottest new act, the competition is supported by the Australian Government's National Drugs Campaign and will see the winning band receive $10,000 worth of airtime on Nova, mentoring by Sony Music and a recording session at the Australian Institute of Music, the official educational partner of the Logitech Rock the Schools tour.
Rock the Schools sees Logitech join the tour as naming rights sponsor. Logitech, as part of its commitment to the Australian music fan, is providing the tour with the equipment that helps students enjoy a richer experience with their digital music world. The sponsorship of Rock the Schools is part of Logitech's increased backing of the Australian music scene which emulates the support that Logitech Ultimate Ears dedicates to musicians all over the world, including a list of world renowned artists. International smash hit Wii game, Just Dance 2, has also come on board as a sponsor for its first year. This exciting new partnership will see the element of dance introduced to the program, with students encouraged to get active and learn a few dance routines to current and classic tunes.
Returning as a major sponsor of the Rock the Schools tour for a second year is the Australian Government's National Drugs Campaign. Also a major sponsor for Nova's I am with the Band competition and National Youth Week's RockIt competition, the campaign has aligned with the theme of 'music' to engage young people in ways that are meaningful to them. Rock the Schools is an ideal vehicle to communicate with the target audience of the campaign and encourage students to face facts on the risks of ecstasy use, such as 'you don't know what's in it.'
Also returning for a second year as the tour's official education partner, the Australian Institute of Music (AIM) will provide students with rare hands-on experience in the industry workshops along with educational information on all the tricks of the trade. The workshops give students an insight on how to run Front of House Sound for a live show. Students will learn about industry recording software Protools and their Music Business Workshops will explore the many different career paths available in the commercial music industry.
2011 also sees the world's most popular social game for teenagers, Habbo returning for its fifth consecutive year as a media partner. A safe and fun online environment for teens to hang out,
Habbo.com will have a dedicated Logitech Rock the Schools assembly hall. The tour's other Media Partners are Girlfriend magazine and Channel V both of which will be running major promotions in conjunction with Logitech. Popular Channel V presenter and Logitech Rock the Schools Ambassador Billy Russell will be attending the Sydney Media Day on May 5 at Randwick Girls High School.
