See Queenscliff in a Different Light this Winter

As winter enters its darkest weeks, Queenscliff launches the inaugural Low Light Festival, bringing the finest international and local arts, music and culinary talents in a month-long celebration of all the senses.

Featuring an extraordinary array of events across four weekends including live music, gin and whiskey tastings, heritage walks, progressive dinners and unmissable mind-blowing visual art installations, Low Light will shine a beacon on the renowned seaside village, providing visitors with plenty of reasons to spend a winter's weekend in Queenscliff. 

In a very special partnership with the Icelandic Dance Company, Low Light will screen exclusive Australian premieres of three new films: ÖRÆVI or Life in the Undergrowth featuring original music composed by Sigur Ros which will be projected outdoors; Union of the North by Matthew Barney, Valdimar Jóhannsson and Erna Ómarsdóttir, about the goddess Nammu who holds down a job in a shopping centre and witnesses a new twist on an ancient ritual; and Des Irae, by visual artist Gabríela Friðriksdóttir, conveying joy, grief, death and resurrection and presented as an individual immersive experience. This program appears courtesy of the Lighthouse Arts Collective and Bellarine Lighthouse Films.

A series of one-night-only performances at the glorious Queenscliff Town Hall will take place over the month when Dan Sultan, folk-pop outfit All Our Exes Live in Texas, and international Americana star Justin Townes Earle come to the seaside town.

Festival-goers can enjoy a range of art exhibitions in surrounding galleries or take part in workshops ranging from print making to drawing; the perfect activity to warm your seaside spirits in the depths of winter.

Culinary delights will be on offer throughout the festival including a five-course big red dinner featuring a battle of the wines from Bordeaux and Bellarine, a Bastille dinner will be complimented with a French musical twist, and a progressive dinner showcasing the best of the region in four top locations.

Just 90 minutes' drive from Melbourne, Queenscliff is one of Victoria's most renowned seaside resorts, filled with Victorian-era architectural grandeur and top and tailed by two lighthouses (High Light and Low Light). Low Light is a new twist to proceedings, offsetting the low season and Queenscliff's bracing seaside cold with a month-long celebration of warming, immersive comforts and the arts.

Low Light can be enjoyed as a day trip or as a full weekend away with the events taking place from Friday through to Sunday each week and all within easy distance of the town centre. Queenscliff and Pt Lonsdale are equally accessible from Melbourne, Geelong, Ballarat and of course Sorrento and Portsea by ferry. A range of accommodation is available in Queenscliff and local regions.
