Lucia Greco Debutante Dress Drive Interview

Melbournian Lucia Greco is encouraging women in Melbourne's CBD to help make a positive difference in the lives of those less fortunate by donating pre-loved gowns to the Debutante Dress Drive.

The initiative is bringing to life Lucia's involvement in The Life's Good Project, a unique social study which is currently asking people around Australia what makes their life good. Out of hundreds of entries, Lucia's 'Life's Good' moment - making a positive impact in someone's life and seeing the smile on their face - was selected and is now being lived out with the help of LG Electronics.

At the end of the Debutante Dress Drive, Lucia who is a skilled dress designer will personally tailor a selection of the donations for a group of women with disabilities put forward by Scope, a Melbourne-based not-for-profit organisation. The women will wear the dresses to Scope's See Me September Ball - an initiative which is all about seeing the person, not the disability - taking place on Saturday 3rd September, 2011.

"Making a positive difference in someone's life and seeing them smile is my personal 'Life's Good' moment because I think everyone, especially the young people in our society, deserve to have the best opportunities in life. It's amazing how much a small gesture can change someone's outlook or approach in life," said Lucia Greco, the second person who has had their 'Life's Good' moment brought to life.

Anyone who works or lives in Melbourne CBD is being encouraged to get involved in the Debutante Dress Drive by registering on the official Life's Good Project Facebook app which can be found via the LG Australia page, www.facebook.com/LGAustralia

Interview with Lucia Greco

Question: What inspired you to begin the Debutante Dress Drive?

Lucia Greco: I have been in the debutante dress industry for many years and it has always been a passion of mine. I have also been involved with many charity events and I always take pride in my involvement. My inspiration to begin the drive was to take my two passions and enable all girls to have their special day!

This dream came to fruition when took part in The Life's Good Project, a unique social study commissioned by LG to find out what makes life good for Australians. My life's good moment - "Life's good when making a positive impact in someone's life and seeing the smile on their face" - was chosen as a winning entry and is now being brought to life, thanks to LG.

Question: What is the Debutante Dress Drive and how does the charity work?

Lucia Greco: The drive involves anyone donating pre-loved debutante dresses. I will then tailor up to three of the donated dresses which will be given to young girls attending the Scope See Me September Ball on Saturday 3rd September, an initiative which is all about seeing the person, not the disability. Scope is one of the largest providers of services to people with a disability in Victoria, and one of the largest not-for-profit organisations in Australia. Their mission is to support people with a disability to achieve their potential in welcoming and inclusive communities.

Question: How has the Debutante Dress Drive worked with The Life's Good Project?

Lucia Greco: To bring my Life's Good moment to fruition, LG are helping me generate awareness by facilitating the Debutante Dress Drive, a campaign which is all about digging deep and donating pre-loved formal or debutante dresses to those less who are less fortunate.

Question: How does it make your feel organising dresses for those who are less fortunate?

Lucia Greco: Being given this opportunity reminds me that even the smallest of gestures has the ability to positively impact someone else's life.

Question: How can Australians get involved with the Debutante Dress Drive?

Lucia Greco: Anyone in the Melbourne can donate their dress by registering on the official Life's Good Project Facebook app which can be found via www.facebook.com/LGAustralia. The deadline for registering donations is 5pm on Monday 29th of August 2011. On Wednesday 31st August, LG will be sending a LG courier van to collect donated dresses from their owners in Melbourne.

Question: Is it just dresses, or can Australians donate their time, materials or skills to the Debutante Dress Drive?

Lucia Greco: Of course, all support and skills are welcome to this amazing event commissioned by LG.

Question: Will there be more events in the future where Australians can donate to the Debutante Dress Drive?

Lucia Greco: Hopefully this event will continue to grow in the years to come so we can all do our part to help all girls feel special on their debutante day!
