Interview with M.Maggie

Question: What inspired the track, "Faded Ripped Jeans?"

M.Maggie: Life, love and getting real honest and dirty on that ride. You have to hear it and feel it and listen to it over again to see the places it takes you.


Question: How would you describe your music?

M.Maggie: Dark Pop. It's Saturday night dancing and Sunday morning in bed...


Question: What motivates you most when writing music?

M.Maggie: The only reason I write is because something is inside of me that needs to come out. It's innate and miraculous.


Question: Do you prefer performing live or recording?

M.Maggie: It's two wonderful worlds to live in. It's late nights and all the passion and attention that goes into creating a baby; intimate and beautiful and all types of emotional. And performing is this powerful, unbelievable feeling with everyone together. It's electrifying and emotional and God damn... See, I would buy the record, and listen to it all the way through. Really feel it in your body and listen again. Then come to a show and hear it and feel it with me and everyone else together. You may not know exactly what or why but you will feel it intensely and hopefully come back and see where you felt it more.


Question: Which is your favourite song to perform live and why?

M.Maggie: I like when the music gets nasty and I like when everyone gets nasty with M.

Question: If you could have anyone, in the world, attend a show, who would it be?

M.Maggie: I want many people to attend my show, all different colors and sizes and shapes and gender. I like variety in more ways than one.


Question: Which music/artists are you currently listening to?

M.Maggie: I have Snoh Aalegra, Masego, Swae Lee on my playlist.

Question: What or who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?

M.Maggie: Music is my inspiration to be in the music industry. I love the feeling I get when I sing, and I love making people feel that same way when I sing. I love everything about music and what it does to people, that's what made me want to do music for the rest of my life.


Question: What's a typical day like?

M.Maggie: It's all music, and it's all fun. I am scheduled by the hour; I create demos, play guitar, write, rehearse...creative meetings, business meetings, constantly building the M. brand.

Question: What has been your favourite part of becoming a music artist?

M.Maggie: I love being an artist because it's dope and I get to do what I love every day, which is music. It's exciting and fun and playful and sexual and expressive and so much more.
