Mary Poppins Review
After seeing Disney's Mary Poppins I literally skipped out the theatre with a huge smile on my face, I was overjoyed with the pure magic and excitement of the musical, making me feel like a child, again.
I haven't watched Disney's Mary Poppins in quite a while but as the production began the storyline and song lyrics came back to me, quickly. Mary Poppins allows all older audience members to be taken on a journey of discovery, that most will remember from their childhoods.
I was impressed with the dazzling talent, toe-tapping songs, colourful costumes and the striking choreography in this visually amazing musical. However, what mystified me the most was the amazingly oversized objects being pulled out of Mary Poppins' overnight bag, this effect was phenomenal! The effortless changing of set and suitable props contributed to the overall fabulousness of the entire show.
I believe the tap routine to Step In Time deserves a special mention; it was outstanding and showcased Australia's talent alongside the equally impressive choreography for Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious; I really want to learn the dance actions now...
Verity Hunt-Ballard portrays an irresistible Mary Poppins and it is clear to see why she was cast in the leading role. Verity Hunt-Ballard stars alongside Matt Lee as Bert, Philip Quast as Mr George Banks and Marina Prior as Mrs Winifred Banks. Marina Prior's voice steals the show; her pure talent and ability to showcase Mrs Winifred Banks perfectly, has to impress all audiences.
Overall Mary Poppins is an excellent interpretation of the childhood classic that is suitable for all ages.
