MATT SHIRVINGTON is a phenomenal sprint talent who has made enormous improvements since his journey into athletics began. Attending St Martin's school he was quite adept at athletics during this time.
At the age of nineteen, Shirvington joined sprinting's elite by clocking 10.03 in the 100 metre final at the 1998 Commonwealth Games, just his second major international event. He has raced against the world's elite athletes including Donovan Bailey and Maurice Greene.
In the same year, he missed a bronze medal by centimetres but broke the national record twice and produced two other runs equal or superior to the previous record set by Damian Marsh in 1995.
ADDITIONAL STATS
March 1999 - Shirvington became National 100m and 200m sprint champion.
February 2000 - Shirvington captured his third consecutive national title in the 100 metres.
