Interview with Max Leon

Question: Tell us about Todo Para Ti:

Max Leon: Todo Para Ti which in Spanish or Portuguese means All For You was created because I was asked to submit a track for this year's Latin Grammy's and I wrote the track with that in my mind. The track is essentially about my love for music; I wanted to write a track that everyone could relate to and this song can be interpreted in any way you want as it can be about your family, your partner, your pets or your friends. I wrote the track with my producer and co-producers; it was mastered in the States which was amazing. Todo Para Ti has had quite an array of people work on it.

Question: What motivates you when writing?

Max Leon: I love music, it's my passion, it is my life. When I write I draw a lot from my own emotions and journey within life. I have always found that music has helped me through a lot of things and essentially I aspire to create the same, for other people. I hope my music will change people's lives and help them.

Question: What music/artists do you listen to when you are not playing your own?

Max Leon: I like all genres of music from rock to pop to classic. I listen to a lot of different music however I don't like to compare myself to anyone. When I listen to music I listen to artists like Michael Jackson, Pink, Etta James, Rihanna, Chris Brown, Kayne West, Jay Z and Tupac; as you can see I have a massive array of influences and hopefully people can see that throughout the songs on my album.

Question: What's next? Tour/Album/Single?

Max Leon: I will be working on a video clip for Todo Para Ti next and I have enough ready-to-go songs to make up an album; I will release a few singles and then hopefully at the end, an album.

Question: Was there a moment you contemplated throwing in the towel?

Max Leon: Never! Never once.

Question: Do you prefer performing live or recording?

Max Leon: I love recording in terms of the creating space and having the ability to create great music but I love performing live. Performing live is the best feeling in the world, by far, I love having an audience and making people smile.

Question: What/who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?

Max Leon: My family is quite musical, my dad my grandmother were singers, music is in my blood. I grew up naturally taken to music and I've always loved it. The music I listen to and my family inspired my passion and as a kid I pretended I was performing to thousands of people, in my bedroom as Michael Jackson or Whitney Huston.

Question: What is the biggest challenge you have faced along the way to your musical success?

Max Leon: My biggest challenge is being confident in myself and being confident in being who I am and confident that people will love me for who I am. It took a little while to come to terms with the fact that I am talented and my music is worth putting out there.

Question: What's a typical day like?

Max Leon: I have really random days; sometimes I spend a whole week writing and recording and being creative. I'm an architect as well so another day may be designing. My life is consistently creative but in different endeavours however for me writing is exactly the same as designing and uses the same part of the brain.

Question: What has been your favourite part of becoming a music artist?

Max Leon: My favourite part has been the ability to become a music artist and be able to be creative and do what I love. I get up every morning and I am conscious that I am very blessed that I can do this every single day and I have people who support me.

Question: If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?

Max Leon: Just one (laughs)? I always get told I look like Bruno Mars, I get that daily, so he would be an interesting collaboration because he is an amazing artist and I love his music. I love Rihanna's music as it's amazing, current and she is an intellectual and Kayne West because I'm into hip hop and rap!
