Backstage at Milan Fashion Week with Eugene Souleiman, Global Creative Director, Wella Professionals: Creating the Hair Look for Moschino S/S '11

The Look: 'It's a Wrap!'
Moschino chose to delve into its legendary history for inspiration for the S/S '11 Moschino collection, which consisted of a fun mix of pieces that played with proportion and volume. This colourful collection was high on humour with clashing patterns and textures which will undoubtedly appeal to the loyal Moschino woman with her ironic take on life. The outfits were finished off with oversized jewellery and polka dot scarves worn in the hair. "The hair look was inspired by the classic hair shape of the 1950s, but I didn't want to go too retro. I wanted to bring this look up to date by playing with different textures within the same hair look." says Eugene Souleiman, Global Creative Director, Wella Professionals, Care and Styling.

The first part of the hair look was achieved by creating a super shiny, scraped back 'off the face' effect which almost looked unreal. This contrasted with a wrapped ponytail which had a dryer, less shiny, looser and more textured finish providing the perfect parallel. The hair look was completed by a silk polka dot scarf which was folded and tied round the head to frame the face and cover the ears.

Get the Look:
Start with freshly washed and conditioned hair, and apply Crystal Styler from the Wella Professionals High Hair range before blow drying hair straight but without creating volume. Apply Wella Professionals System Professional Ultimation Hairspray around the roots of the hair line and comb through to create a controlled look. Apply Wella Professionals System Professional Pearl Smooth just at the roots and apply gently with fingers in to the roots around the hair line to create a perfect finish. Pull hair up in to a very tight pony tail above the crown, right at the top of the head and secure with elastic.

Spray Wella Professionals High Hair Touch & Feel directly into the pony tail and dry again using a diffuser to create an ultra dry effect, then back comb the pony tail right at the roots to create texture and volume at the base of the pony tail, then brush through leaving the back combing 'inside' the pony tail and creating a smoother outside layer.

Fold the pony tail back on itself and re-tie into a loop, leaving enough hair at the end to wrap around the pony tail. Use hair pins to secure the sides of the pony tail loop (almost like a fan). Split the loose ends of the pony tail into two, and again back comb at the roots, bringing the hair forward towards the face, then wind each section flat against the roots and wrap around the loop, securing with pins to hold the style in place. Finally, take a folded silk scarf and tie around the hair to frame the face and cover the ears, using pins to hold in place as required.
