Myoa has recently released her single, "StarPower" ahead of the release of her album, Beautiful Journey in September.
Interview with Myoa
Question: How would you describe your music?
Myoa: I call my music SoPoJa, which means soul, pop and jazz. It is a combination of unique sounds and expressions, which flow perfectly giving the listener a euphoric experience. I usually write from a personal place, which tends to become universal.
Question: What inspired the song "StarPower?"
Myoa: I wrote this song while I was visiting Nigeria and I felt a great sense of my purpose and timing. So I decided to write a song reminding me of the power of a new day and power to fulfill my purpose, because this gift is beyond me and I was created to pass on truth, joy and hope to people through my music. There is power in knowing who you are.
Question: What can you tell us about Beautiful Journey?
Myoa: Beautiful Journey is my first full body of work released. This Album is a collection of songs over many years that expresses my journey in life. I wrote, recorded and produced this song in 3 continents (Africa, UK, US) as each moment and each song represents a certain moment in this journey. I wanted every listener to be reminded that in life, there are ups and downs, but each moment is part of your journey and you can choose to look at it in a beautiful way and see beauty through the ashes and enjoy the simple and little things of life.
Question: What motivates you most when writing music?
Myoa: Music is very powerful as sometimes it speaks where words cannot. I get motivated knowing that my lyrics are about to make an impact in someone's life. That's why the actual melody is important, as that sometimes reaches the listeners before they pay attention to the lyrics. We all have something to say and the fact that I can do this easily motivates me to keep sharing. Overall my love for music motivates me.
Question: Do you prefer performing live or recording?
Myoa: I enjoy both, but live performance is my preference because though my listeners can have a piece of me with them always through recording. When they see me perform live, they get to experience what I felt when I created that music. They can feel my energy, my soul and connect with me at that moment which is something they will never forget and makes the recording they have even more meaningful. I love the stage, I love performing with a live band.
Question: Which is your favourite song to perform live and why?
Myoa: This is a tricky question, to be perfectly honest this changes because sometimes depending on the crowd a certain song may feel more euphoric to perform because you know they can relate. I just love performing each song to the best of my ability.
Question: If you could have anyone, in the world, attend a show, who would it be?
Myoa: Ah so many people but if I had to choose one person presently, I would love Oprah to attend my show
Question: Which music/artists are you currently listening to?
Myoa: I'm always searching for new music, lately it has been Khalid, Ed Sheeran, and Melody Gardot.
Question: What or who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?
Myoa: I have always known that music was a great part of me. My parents encouraged me and had me take piano lessons when I was really young, I would also organise mini concerts with my sister growing up. Eventually I wrote my first song at age nine and my music teacher encouraged me to always write. So I nurtured that passion till I enrolled full time in music school, at the Musicians Institute in Los Angeles.
Question: If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?
Myoa: My dream collaboration would be with Sade.
Question: What's a typical day like?
Myoa: Every day is different, but mostly, I wake up, say my prayer, grab a cup of tea or eat a bowl cheerios, check my email (I'm always expecting good news) and then handle what the day may bring.
Question: What has been your favourite part of becoming a music artist?
Myoa: The joy of fulfilling my purpose and knowing that each day is getting me closer to the ultimate goal. I love music so much and so just the fact that I am following my dreams and being me is one of the greatest joys I have as a music artist.
Question: Can you share your socials?
