MzUki Caps Off A Successful 2019

Melbourne-based artist, MzUki caps off a successful 2019 with her latest offering 'Unicorn' alongside complementary visuals available now on all streaming platforms. The new single will carry the diva's passion and strong message of expressing true sexuality to her listeners.

Made by a blend of Electronica and R&B/HipHop, MzUki hones in on her values and further expresses her purpose on 'Unicorn', giving those without a voice to stand for what they believe in. Her main subject of focus is one that's gained popularity in modern culture, gender equality and bisexualism, where she then relates the powerful idea of Unicorns and the magic they possess with her message.

"I wanted to create a track where women and men could feel comfortable in expressing their sexuality and free-est selves whether that be the sensual side of their personalities, the more eccentric or wild" - MzUki

Having proven a unique talent mixed with undeniable star quality when she became a member of The X Factor's popular pop group XOX back in 2014 (and becoming a top 10 finalist), MzUki has kept the momentum building and continues to deliver above and beyond to her loyal fan base. Her song 'Angel Crew' also got premiered on a commercial radio 96.1 FM.

Interview with Mzuki

Question: How would you describe your music?

Mzuki: It really changes depending on my mood. It can be trappy turn-up vibes, poppy, and fun or more introspective and deep. I like the mix of hard and soft vibes to add some texture. I love to sing but I'm a rapper first.

Question: Can you tell us about Unicorn?

Mzuki: Unicorn was birthed out of a wild concept. I heard the beat and it just shot to mind. It had a sexy feel to it so I made a play on Ginuwine's Pony and sparkled him up a bit. It's really about creating a safe space where people can feel free to express the sensual or wilder parts of their personalities. Its exploring themes of bisexuality and allowing people to unleash their inner "Unicorn" by embracing their own inner authenticity.

Question: Do you prefer performing live or recording?

Mzuki: I love the creative process in the studio so much. I could really be in the studio every day. I would have to say it's a tie though because performing is also so much fun and satisfying. I like the combination of both, creating art and then seeing it come to life at a show the whole process together makes it so worth it and fun to watch the experience unfold.

Question: If you could have anyone, in the world, attend a show, who would it be?

Mzuki: Let's get Oprah and Beyonce at a show that'd be pretty iconic.

Question: What motivates you most when writing music?

Mzuki: A lot of it is just self-expression. Music is such a healing outlet and the creative process is just so therapeutic and enjoyable in itself. It depends on my mood – sometimes I want to tell a story, sometimes I want to exert energy, it's usually always for me though. Expressing how I'm feeling at any moment and being vulnerable with the art so others can truly hear and relate.

Question: Which music/artists are you currently listening to?

Mzuki: I'm in studio mode right now so I'm creating and playing with a lot of different sounds right now. Jhene Aiko is amazing! I love her depth and her new song None Of Your Concern. I'm also vibing this artist called "BigKlit" when I need a break to just turn up and get into hype mode (laughs)! Music is great, such a spectrum of moods.

Question: What or who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?

Mzuki: I was 12 years old and I saw this kid rapper called 'Scooter Smiff' opening up for Chris Brown in concert and from the moment I saw this little kid dancing around this HUGE stage rapping I knew that was what I was born to do.

Question: If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?

Mzuki: I'd love to collaborate with J.Cole – would be fun to go back and forth on a conscious verse or get Chris Brown on a chorus and make a club banger (laughs) or Nicki Minaj will you hop on a verse! Newer school though I'd love to work with Doja Cat and Rico Nasty. All for the female empowerment and a new wave of female artists is so incredible I'd love to make a fun track with either of those girls.

Question: How did it feel to hear your song played all over the airwaves?

Mzuki: Every time one of my tracks plays on the radio I feel so happy. It's such an amazing feeling to know something that has been created out of an idea is now fully formed and being broadcast to the world. Music always sounds better over the radio (laughs) when others are listening simultaneously.

Question: What is the biggest challenge you have faced along the way to your musical success?

Mzuki: My musical journey and own personal spiritual journey have been so inextricably linked. Just as I evolve and develop as a person so does my music. The depths that I can reach musically are definitely influenced by the experiences I've had throughout my life. Just the determination to keep on creating. The fire to keep the dream alive and continue on the path. It can be a testing career but I love it so much so all the work is always worth it!

Question: What's a typical day like?

Mzuki: Wake up. Meditate. Emails. Write. Walk. Studio. Ritual. Sacrifice a hater. Dance. Celebrate my blessings. Something like that!

Question: What has been your favourite part of becoming a music artist?

Mzuki: The places it's been able to take me, the experiences I've been able to have, performing on stage – the boldness of the pursuit, how I can just be my most exaggerated version and the liberating freedom to express myself while being a voice for others. The journey ahead of me is very exciting too - I'm so grateful for everything and all the blessings I've already received and that are to come. I like how limitless this career can be and the person I'm growing into as I continue to evolve musically and spiritually.

Question: Can you share your socials?

Mzuki: Sure, you can find me on Instagram I am @itzmzuki.
Facebook @itzmzuki and "MzUki" on Youtube.
