Interview with Naomi Sequeira

Question: What inspired the track, Piece Of Me?

Naomi Sequeira: It's raw, young, fresh and groovy and that's what makes it special. I've been wanting to release music for a long time now and finally had the courage to do so at the end of 2017. I'm still growing as an artist and I'm constantly being inspired, so I thought for the time being it would be a good idea to release just a little Piece Of Me. I hope that people can connect with my music and feel good when they listen to it.

Question: Can you tell me the video clip, you directed?

Naomi Sequeira: Yes! I was lucky enough to direct two music videos with Thomaz LaBanca who is an incredible DOP. I wanted the concept for both music videos to be simply romantic and effective with certain colours, beautiful location and real moments, yet still be different from each other.

Pastries was shot at night around Santa Monica and China town in LA and its colour scheme was moody blues and reds. Whereas Forever Mine was all about bright colours and tropical vibes by San Clemente beach. I worked with my talented friends (Jordi Weber and Charlie Gillespie) and we all had a lot of fun on and off set.

Question: Which is your favourite song to perform live and why?

Naomi Sequeira: I haven't performed any of these songs live yet, but I honestly can't wait to perform Pastries. It's so groovy, funky and fun! Plus, saxophone live will be so awesome and the bass in it is killer.

Question: Do you prefer performing live or recording?

Naomi Sequeira: Performing live, it's always such a thrill performing in front of a crowd with a radical band. Nothing beats live music and the energy!

Question: What motivates you most when writing music?

Naomi Sequeira: Life experiences is my biggest inspiration and motivator for writing music.

Question: Which music/artists are you currently listening to?

Naomi Sequeira: A huge mix right now: Nick Drake, Stevie Nicks (I'm obsessed with Crystal), Camila Cabello, G Flip, Sabrina Carpenter, Dua Lipa and more!

Question: What or who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?

Naomi Sequeira: Lady Gaga. She's an incredible, hardworking, unique individual. I love her! She uses her voice and platform for the right intentions. She creates powerful music from the heart and has completely evolved from her first album (The Fame - which is one of my favourites). I also admire that she's pursuing both acting and music. So exciting!

Question: If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?

Naomi Sequeira: Lady Gaga, I'd love to do writing and recording session with her, that would be incredible.

Question: What message do you hope to spread to young women?

Naomi Sequeira: Stay true to who you are.
You're beautiful, unique and magical.
Have faith. Believe.
Choose positivity and compassion.
Be inspired. Trust yourself.
Listen to what your gut and the universe is telling you.
