Napoleon Perdis Reveals Beauty Looks from David Jones Launch
Australia's leading makeup artist Napoleon Perdis revealed his three key looks for Spring/Summer in his role as Official Makeup Partner for the David Jones Spring/Summer 2011 Fashion Launch at Sydney's Royal Hall of Industries.
"It's been amazing working with the David Jones team," he said the morning after the night before. "They've made a really strong, confident statement in investing and expanding their designer portfolio with such a great line-up of local and international names. Fashion fuels my brand and I was truly honoured to be asked to collaborate with David Jones for this event. Great fashion needs great makeup!" he said.
The makeup maestro's exclusive looks for the occasion were a fresh, orange lip against a clear, glossy eye, a beautiful bronzed nude, and an Old Hollywood-inspired red lip worn to best effect by Miranda Kerr, the supermodel mum who made her first strut down the catwalk after giving birth to baby Flynn in January.
"Miranda was amazing to work with," adds Napoleon. "We worked together on an Alex Perry show many moons ago and we've caught up in LA recently, but spending time with her backstage and having her lead the show wearing my makeup looks was such a buzz. She's really going places - watch her space!"
Look 1: Old Hollywood
The first of Perdis's creations is a nod to the bold red lip look of the Golden Hollywood era and the perfect launch pad for his new Better Off Red collection.
"All three looks are very much about a perfect canvas but this look in particular requires a perfectly maintained canvas," Perdis says. "This is a very luxurious look, very Northern European aristo-glam. I was also inspired by Paloma Picasso and her signature red lip and a very classic Old Hollywood aesthetic. I met up with Miranda [Kerr] in LA and was so taken by her amazing blue gaze; I wanted a look that really enhanced her eyes. Even though I've made the focus her lips [with my new Double Agent Rouge Palette], her eyes pop like never before."
Get the Look:
1. For a look lit from within prep with Napoleon Complex Skin Renewal Serum.
2. For a look that will last follow with Auto Pilot Pre-Foundation Primer. Remember, not to prime is a crime!
3. Apply your mascara first. This will allow the first coat to dry so that the second coat will glide on smoothly. For this look we used Mesmer-eyes Mascara.
4. Next a base. For a glowing complexion we use Boudoir Mist Spray Foundation.
5. To add that extra dose of paparazzi ready apply Camera Finish Powder Foundation; a silk finish powder foundation compact three-in-one that conceals, covers and sets.
6. Sculpt the face with Mozaic Bronzing Powder below the cheek bone, Mosaic Gleamer above the cheekbone and, to brighten up a neutral face, add Mosaic Blushing Powder along the cheekbone.
7. To define untamed, raw brows use Precision Brow Pencil.
8. Add shape to your eye with a universally flattering shade- bronze or taupe- like our Prismatic Eye Shadow Quad #5.
9. To add definition further, strategically smudge China Doll Gel Liner in Earth close to the upper lash line.
10. Make your eyes pop! Use a white liner on the inner rim. Perfect your peepers with China Doll Gel Liner in Alabaster. Now, add another coast of mascara.
11. Fluttery will get you everywhere! Accessorise your eyes with our Lash Patrol 747.
12. Now's the time to create an impact! Grab your palette of Double Agent Rouge, a velvety-textured, strong red lip THEN use a lip liner. Using a lip liner last will perfect, define and hold your lip in place. We use Lip Pencil in Rococo Red.
Look 2: Young Hollywood
Look number two is a tangy orange lip, teamed with glossy, dewy lids for a fresh effect. "I'm loving lipstick at the moment," Perdis says.
"When a woman wears lipstick, she leaves her mark, whether it's on a man or a coffee cup. It's high summer in LA at the moment and I've been making my wife wear my DéVine Goddess Lipstick in Hara constantly. It's an amazing shade of orange, an attention-getting statement that's face freshening and really speaks to the Spring/Summer season".
"To me it's young Hollywood meets Palm Springs desert chic. I've taken this look forward by balancing the lip with a gloss shadow on the lids."
Get the Look:
1. Place skin first! No look is complete without a healthy glow. Use Napoleon Skin Renewal Serum.
2. For a perfect foundation landing use Auto Pilot Pre-Foundation Skin Primer.
3. Create a frame. Mascara first! For this look we use Peep Show Madame Fantasia, that adds unbelievable volume, and follow with Peep Show Madame Beyond for skyscraping long lashes.
4. Achieve flawless skin with our Mighty Concealer Pen.
5. Boost makeup intelligence with Sheer Genius Foundation and set to perfection with Camera Finish Powder Foundation.
6. Create a hushed pink cheek with Cheek to Chic Blush Duo #2.
7. This look requires a sleek brow. Define and tame your brows with clear mascara, like Peep Show Madame Crystal, and follow with Precision Brow Pencil.
8. For the eye, first add a little spice with bronze accents, such as Prismatic Eyeshadow Quad #4
9. To get the glossy lid effect, apply Crème de la crème eyeshadow in Quicksilver followed by a touch of Lip Lacquer in Clearly Glam
9. Line and define with a strong black liner; China Doll Gel Liner in Equinox.
10. Lastly, refresh the eye with a little white to the inner rim with Eye Pencil in White On.
11. Prep the pout with a reflective touch of Clearly Glam Lip Lacquer.
12. Layer the velvety texture of DéVine Goddess Lipstick in Hara for the ultimate ontrend lip.
13. An orange lip is best suited to be lined with a neutral tone such as Nude Awakening Lip Pencil.
Look 3: Nairobi
The final look is a shimmering, barely-there base with gold features. Perfect for those who gravitate towards a nude/neutral palette.
"This look was inspired by my trip to Africa," says Perdis. "It's all about beautiful earthy tones with an emphasis on the art of contouring. Eyes are accented with metallic bronze and copper shades while bronzer and blush sculpts the face and helps to sharpen your features. This is probably the most wearable of the three looks. What woman doesn't want killer contours?"
Get the Look:
1. Start by nourishing the skin from outside in with Napoleon Complex Skin Renewal Serum.
2. Prep skin to perfection with Mattifying Mineral Primer.
3. 'Map' your eye look with a coat of mascara. For this look we used Long Black Mascara.
4. Camouflage imperfections with our Advanced Mineral Makeup and then conceal what you don't want to reveal with a concealer. I recommend our Pro Palette Concealer that contains violet, mint and yellow tones. The mint counteracts redness caused by blemishes, the violet is great for diffusing yellow tones and the yellow is great for dark circles.
5. Illuminate the skin with Light Patrol Luminizer Palette.
6. Add some contour and warmth to the face with the glimmering effects of our Bronze Patrol and shape the cheek with a touch of Blush Patrol.
7. Now for the eyes. This look has bronze accented eyes using our highly-pigmented Color Disc in Tawny Temptress and our Loose Eye Dusts; Copper Element and Starlight.
8. To make your eyes pop, add some definition. Go for a copper, like our China Doll Gel Eyeliner in Copper and then further enhance drama with Neo Noir Liquid Liner.
9. Add a splash of colour to the lip. You'll have almost edible lips with our DéVine Goddess in Hess. Add a dusting of gold and a beautiful Luminous Lip Veil in the Gold and The Beautiful. Your lips are now full and enhanced for emphasis.
10. For limitless definition use your lip pencil last. For this look I use Nude Awakening Lip Pencil.
