Experience the vibrancy and colour of all things Peruvian with a special one-day festival featuring alpacas, handicrafts, traditional music and dance.
The National Maritime Museum is hosting a special celebration of Peruvian craft on Sunday 20 June full of stalls, talks, delicious food and demonstrations.
The festival will showcase Peru's alpaca industry and its influence on Australia's Alpaca industry, together with traditional handicrafts made from the wool. There'll be craft stalls and even live alpacas for visitors to pat.
And don't miss the special alpaca wool hand spinning demonstration during the day... see how the wool is turned into beautiful yarn for knitting and weaving.
There'll be plenty of colour, music and dance throughout the day with performances by Latin-American band Pukara, the Peru All Stars and traditional folk dancers Brisas del Peru.
A program of special talks will take place in the museum's theatre with presentations on the Peruvian alpaca industry, traditional jewellery techniques and a demonstration of the 'cajon' - a traditional Peruvian percussion instrument.
Food stalls will offer the tastes of Peru with a selection of delicious traditional dishes including empanadas, tamales, ceviches and more.
