Kids on Deck: Antarctic Adventures (5-12 yrs)
There'll be a raft of arts and craft where kids can make their very own magnetic toy - an icebreaker ship - while discovering all about the properties of magnets. Plus they'll find out what it's like to live and work in one of the coldest places on earth with dress ups, fishing games and more.
The hourly session will run from 10 am to 4 pm daily from 4 to 18 July. Tickets are $7 per child, adults free. For children aged 5-12 years.
Climate Change Show
This special interactive multimedia show for kids will look at greenhouse gases, climate change and their effects on the atmosphere.
The performances will take place at 10.30 am, 12 pm and 1.30 pm on Monday 12 and Tuesday 13 July and entry is included in the Kids on Deck school holiday ticket.
Youth Workshops (8-14 yrs)
The first - Wearable Weaves - on 5 and 6 July will be part of the museum's NAIDOC Week celebrations. Aboriginal elder and master weaver Uncle Steven Russell from Boolarng Nangamai Aboriginal Art and Culture Studio will show participants how to create a wearable art work using traditional Indigenous weaving techniqies.
The workshop will run from 10 am to 12.30 pm and costs $15 per child (includes all workshop materials).
The second workshop - Young Inventors - will run on 15 and 16 July and will explore the science of magnetism. Attendees will create a kinetic system (moving object) out of pulleys and motors and even fashion their own piece of liquid art using ferrofluid sculpture techniques (where particles in oil form beautiful patterns when magnets are applied).
The workshop will run from 10 am to 1 pm and costs $20 per child (includes all workshop materials).
