In celebration of National Selfie Day, Ola, one of world's largest rideshare platforms has teamed up with influencer Simone to share her fail-proof 'backseat-selfie' tips.
Whether you're en route to your next soiree, or dodging public transport on a rainy day, the backseat of a rideshare is no stranger to the backseat-selfie. So, to celebrate National Selfie Day, Ola – one of the world's largest ridesharing platforms - has teamed up with Kiwi selfie queen, Simone Anderson, to help you nail that fabulous backseat selfie.
Between juggling daily workouts, attending multiple events and running her full-time hair and makeup business, selfie queen Simone admits she spends a lot of time in the backseat of a rideshare documenting her work day.
"You might think you need expensive photography equipment, ring lights and editing apps to achieve a flawless picture, but all you really need is great natural lighting – which is why so many selfies are taken in the backseat of a rideshare," she says.
So, next time you're riding in an Ola, scrolling through Instagram wondering how to achieve a fabulous snap on the go, use Simone's top five tips to seriously up your car-fie game.
Natural lighting is your best friend
Natural lighting can make or break any photo. You want to ensure the source of the best light is never directly behind you. The easiest way to check for the best lighting is to simply hold the camera up in selfie position and slowly tilt the camera until you find the best spot. The reason we always look so fab in the car is the diffused light softens our features, takes the attention away from any lines and wrinkles and makes our hair and makeup glow. Daylight will always provide the clearest and most crisp shots!
Work your angles
Holding the camera at an angle slighter higher than your face is usually the most flattering for a selfie – it disguises any double chins or loose skin in my case! If you then look up towards the camera, you'll naturally raise your eyebrows without realising, which then opens your eyes making them appear larger. Another great tip is to think of something that genuinely makes you happy, this will shine through in your eyes.
Clean your camera!
This may seem silly and obvious but far too often I see blurry photos because there have been fingerprints or makeup on the screen. Grab a cleaning cloth or, if on the go in an Ola, even a t-shirt will do the trick! This will ensure you have the highest quality selfie.
Take lots of photos…. And I mean LOTS!
One shot is rarely going to cut it. Holding the camera down on burst while doing subtle movements and laughs will ensure you capture the best most natural looking selfie. Try tilting you head in a few different positions and changing up your smile. Keeping your head up off the headrest in the car will keep your hair looking tidy too. These subtle changes can make a world of difference when it comes to picking the best shot. Taking an Ola removes the stress of city driving and finding the nearest carpark so you can take your time getting 'the perfect shot'.
Confidence is your best accessory
Nothing in the world is sexier or cooler than confidence. You can truly see it shining through the screen. You are beautiful because of what shines from within, never forget this! Self-confidence is the best outfit, own it and rock it! Don't over think it, selfies should be fun and not too serious, especially if you're in a rideshare with your friends – if you are feeling great about yourself grab your phone and take the snap regardless of the location.
