Nubian's top tips for reducing your water use: without having to go without!
Stop leaks: If you can hear a leaking tap or toilet then it is time to fix it. Often all that's needed is a new washer - and you could be saving thousands of litres of drinking water that are otherwise wasted per day.
Covert to a water-efficient dishwasher: The best dishwashers have highly effective spray systems and use water efficiently during the wash and rinse cycles - these new efficient models reportedly use about the same water as washing by hand.
Save water in the shower: Install a water-efficient showerhead. Water-efficient 'AAA' showerheads use less than 9 litres of water per minute, compared to a normal showerhead that uses 25 litres per minute.
Garden smarts: Choose native plants that don't need much water and are suitable to your garden, install a drip irrigation system and use plenty of mulch to reduce evaporation and weed growth.
Recycle your greywater: As much as 60% of the water you flush down the drain can be recycled. Greywater - that is, water from bathroom sinks, showers and the laundry - can be reused in toilet flushing and laundries as well as external applications such as above ground irrigation and car washing.
