Nickelodeon Australia and New Zealand today announces the superstar nominees in the first ever locally produced Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Sports Awards 2017, where Aussie and Kiwi kids have the power to vote for their sporting heroes. Kids' Choice Sports Awards is a six-week slime filled celebration of sports, stars, and more, premiering on Nickelodeon and the free Nick Play app on Monday, 20th November at 5.30pm.
From today, kids will be able to cast their unlimited votes in a six-week period across eleven uniquely unconventional categories including #Hero, Hands of Gold, Sickest Moves and Clutch Player, among others.
It's code versus code, player versus player as Australian Formula 1 superstar Daniel Ricciardo takes on Gold Medal swimmer Kyle Chalmers in 'Need for Speed", while Sam Kerr and Buddy Franklin go head to head for the coveted 'Clutch Player" award, honouring powerhouse players who make it count when it comes to the crunch. Australian Boomer and NBA basketballer Matthew Dellavedova is up against Rugby Sevens star Charlotte Caslick for the legendary limbed 'Hands of Gold", while 2017 National Rugby League Premiership winning Cameron Smith and world champion surfer Mick Fanning battle it out for the timeless title of '#Hero".
Head of On-Air and Creative at Nickelodeon Australia and New Zealand, and Executive Producer for the show, Mick Elliott, said 'We're proud to be working with such high-profile athletes for our first ever Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Sports Awards, we're handing the power over to kids to have their say by voting online now."
General Manager and Vice President of Nickelodeon Australia and New Zealand, Ben Cox, said 'We are thrilled to offer kids a show that celebrates local athletes with an iconic Nickelodeon twist, and we hope that sports-mad Aussies and Kiwis will be as excited as we are to watch it."
