POOLCLVB Erase Interview

POOLCLVB Erase Interview

ft. UK/Belgian singer Moli

Off the back of a phenomenal 12 months, prolific in both touring and releases, Sydney producer POOLCLVB teams up with UK/Belgian singer Moli for the release of his telling new single 'Erase', out now on etcetc. Using darker tones throughout the production, POOLCLVB adds a depth to his latest work by wearing his heart on his sleeve, explaining "'Erase' was shaped during a time in my life where I was feeling displaced. It's me at my most vulnerable. There was a pivotal moment last year where I had to learn to put aside the self doubt and open up to discover the deeper parts of myself, and actually release the music instead of just sitting on it. It's been incredibly liberating."

The compelling lyrics and expert vocal delivery from Moli, showcase a rawness and vulnerability that complement the production to a T. Gushing about his collaborator, POOLCLVB says "Moli's lyrics connected on a level that melted me the first time I heard it, and sung from her perspective, it's like she's held up a mirror to my own life experience. I thrive on that kind of collaboration. I love working with juxtaposition and I feel the contrast between the melancholy vocal and uptempo groove sections play nicely together, it's been exciting to return to my club music roots."

With an undeniable lust for life that is highlighted in his upbeat and forward thinking productions, POOLCLVB, has become of the most respected producers on the Australian scene. Continuing to impress with a slew of shimmering releases, including his debut EP 'You + Me', earning him well deserved praise from EARMILK, Your EDM, EDM Sauce, and more. More recently, the widely acclaimed single 'Space', saw him take the #1 spot on SiriusXM Chill (USA) for 2019. In addition to his stellar originals, POOLCLVB has been sought out time and time again, delivering magnetic remixes for the likes of A-Trak, Secondcity, Golden Features, Motez, Yolanda Be Cool, Kilter, and Paces, adding the ubiquitous and undeniable POOLCLVB touch.

Interview with POOLCLVB

Question: Can you tell us about Erase?

POOLCLVB: 'Erase' is about the absence of someone you had a deep love or connection to, no matter the time or place, those memories can always linger in the peripherals of your thoughts. Sung from Moli's perspective it's like she's held up a mirror to my own life experiences.

Question: What inspired the collaboration with Moli?

POOLCLVB: I've just been immersing myself wholeheartedly, both sonically and in respect to the collaboration process, opening myself up to new methods and techniques and working with likeminded creatives. I was introduced to Moli by my close friend and fellow producer Fabich, who had worked with her previously, I fell in love with their track and her voice in particular and just had to work with her.

Question: How would you describe your music?

POOLCLVB: Honest with a real sense of feeling, vulnerability and emotion.

Question: What motivates you most when creating music?

POOLCLVB: I just want to make music with friends, that connects on a personal level, and gives people a deeper and more meaningful exchange, that's my main motivation.

Question: Do you prefer performing live or recording?

POOLCLVB: They go hand in hand, but provide totally different stimuli. The solitude in the studio at times can be meditative, but nothing compares to the feeling of playing your music to a captivating audience, especially something new, where you get real honest reactions.

Question: Which is your favourite song to perform live and why?

POOLCLVB: I think would have to be 'Erase', it's certainly the most uptempo and energetic record I've done, so it really gets people moving.

Question: If you could have anyone, in the world, attend a show, who would it be?

POOLCLVB: My younger self.

Question: What or who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?

POOLCLVB: Leaving high school and entering the world, I was trying to get into film school, I wanted to make sound effects or be a foley artist in movies when I was growing up. Somewhere along the line I got deep into turntablism, managed some nightclubs and bars which naturally progressed into music production.

Question: If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?

POOLCLVB: It's a hard question, and I do have a secret wishlish. At the top of it Buoy, a London based songwriter originating from Sydney. Basically I want to work with anyone who is being unapologetically themselves, showing truth and vulnerability, she ticks all those boxes and has the most incredible voice I've ever heard.

Question: What is the biggest challenge you have faced along the way to your musical success?

POOLCLVB: Remaining honest and true to myself, and not trying to fit into a mold or ideology dictated by a scene.

Question: What's a typical day like?

POOLCLVB: Morning meditation, either at home or at the beach, followed by a fresh home brewed coffee, enjoyed out of my most favourite Japanese ceramic, A few hours of record label business, studio with all of the snacks... then boxing class at night.

Question: What has been your favourite part of becoming a music artist?

POOLCLVB: Seeing the world and connection with others through the universal language of music.

Question: What's next, for you?

POOLCLVB: Putting the final touches on the next Los Palmas tour, my new party series, with one of my favourite international artists joining me for a run of shows across Australia, plus some very exciting collaborations in the works, whom I may or may not have already name dropped.
