Newcastle is once again gearing up to cheer on riders in the Port to Port MTB four-day race this month.
Designed to be fun and challenging for riders of all abilities, from the recreational to the highly competitive and everyone in between – with a range of 1, 2, 3 and 4 day rides featured in the program available – this year's Port to Port MTB (Thursday 28 May – Sunday 31 May) will see mountain bikers set off from tranquil Nelson Bay Marina, travel through Cessnock and the Hunter Valley before completing the final stage arriving in Newcastle in time for the city's lively post-race celebrations.
Building on the success of last year's inaugural event, the Lord Mayor of Newcastle, Cr Nuatali Nelmes said: 'This is a fabulous family-friendly event which not only promotes health, fitness and fun, but offers an original way to experience the attraction of Newcastle and the beautiful surrounding countryside and coastline."
'Those interested can still register via the Port to Port website, but be quick as it's important to do so before race day!"
The Port to Port MTB 2015 course features the Crowne Plaza Sundown Shootout for elite riders on the second day and a brand new Stage 3 in Awaba National Forest, boasting flowing, swooping trails requiring minimal pedal power for maximum momentum. The course is set against a backdrop of rotating terrain from dry Australian shrubbery at the park's peak to stunning dense rainforest in the valleys.
