A small sweet surprise in the bottom of a Christmas stocking? A little thank-you in a colleague's office drawer? An extra dash of sugar tied to a celebratory bouquet of flowers?

Riffle through the shelves of the best food stores of France, through its most luxe handbags or the most chic travel kits, and you'll find these nostalgically designed tins of Anis de Flavigny: little sugar-coated anise seeds from a tiny French village, made following a recipe unchanged since 1591.

The latest addition to the Saison family, Anis de Flavigny bonbons have a cult-like following in their home country for their natural flavouring of anise seeds sourced from Syria, Spain and Turkey, and encased in layers of sugar.

No one knows when the sweets were invented - their existence in a Burgundy village, Flavigny, is recorded as early as the 16th century. In keeping with centuries of tradition, the sweetest sweets are now made in the Burgundy village's former Benedictine abbey by a family-owned company.

"We're very excited to include the Anis de Flavigny sweets to our range," says Saision director Jason Duke. "The sweets are divine and the gorgeous tins are perfect for tiny keepsakes."

Anis de Flavigny were one of the first confectionaries to be sold in vending machines in the Parisian metro in the 1940s and the sweets are thrown over the heads of newlyweds are a symbol of happiness and fertility. Soapmasters to the Royal Swedish Crown, The Victoria Soap Company have been producing fine soaps in Sweden for over 100 years. Using traditional artisan soap-making techniques each soap bar is hand pressed in antique molds and presented in beautiful vintage print boxes.

Based on the Egg-White facial treatment traditionally used for centuries by Swedish women, the Lanolin Agg-Tval Eggwhite Facial Soap combines protein rich egg white with gentle rose water and lanolin to sooth and soften the skin. The soap is worked into a lather then smoothed onto the face and left for 5 minutes. Impurities are drawn from the skin naturally and on rinsing, a rosy glow appears on the skin. Suitable for dry and delicate skin.
