Sarah Wolfe Devil U Know Interview

Sarah Wolfe Devil U Know Interview

A Cool Sense of Hyper-Realism

Devil U Know embraces the classic upbeat pop sound, brought to life with sensational synths, ringing vocals, and heartfelt lyrics capturing the intricacies that surface during the early stages of a burgeoning love, the trials and tribulations. The track has a cool sense of hyper-realism, with the song coming together during the first few weeks of Wolfe and real-life partner Xavier Dunn's relationship.

Interview with Sarah Wolfe

Question: How would you describe your music?

Sarah Wolfe: Like a little tea bag filled with fuzzy lyrics, swirly synths, glossy production, and some sparkly vocals that hopefully keeps you warm in the winter!

Question: What inspired the track Devil U Know?

Sarah Wolfe: I got to write this one with my partner Xavier Dunn (who also produced the track) in the first few weeks of us dating. When we sat down to start writing it I thought what better than to literally write it about those first few weeks, of being scared and nervous about starting something new but being filled with unbridled excitement. I had some lyrics that were sprawled out across my notes app and from that we made Devil U Know, and luckily he still wanted to date me after (laughs).

Question: Do you prefer performing live or recording?

Sarah Wolfe: This is the first time (yay!) that I've ever put out my own music, so I haven't yet had the chance to perform it live! So by default it is going to have to be recording at the moment, but maybe ask me again in a few months.

Question: What motivates you most when writing music?

Sarah Wolfe: The thought that some people might be able to relate to how I am feeling so we can form a collective of highly emotional beings who like to talk about our feelings.

Question: Which music/artists are you currently listening to?

Sarah Wolfe: So much! Australia has the best indie pop music scene at the moment, and I am loving the music that artists like Kota Banks, Graace, Yorke, Donatachi, Xavier Dunn, Muki, and so many others are putting out.

Question: What or who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?

Sarah Wolfe: In my previous job I got to interview some of my absolute fave artists like Matt Corby, LANY, Troye Sivan, Montaigne, and more, and seeing them being so themselves and so happy with the incredible music they were putting out was the big kick in the arse I needed to restart writing and creating my own music.

Question: If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?

Sarah Wolfe: Cher, I was super obsessed with Burlesque (yes THAT movie) as a kid and absolutely fell in love with her. I took my mum to her concert last year and we had the absolute time of our lives! I can only dream of having the longevity and strength that woman possesses.

Question: What is the biggest challenge you have faced along the way to your musical success?

Sarah Wolfe: Probably myself so far! I convinced myself for so long that this wouldn't work out so I put up my own obstacles, but now that I have finally done it I feel this weird sense of freedom.

Question: What's a typical day like?

Sarah Wolfe: Xav and I make (lots) of coffee, usually eat a few croissants, I head off to work, I work, I come home, we play Pokémon Let's Go on switch, and then sometimes we manage to fit in some writing (laughs)!

Question: What has been your favourite part of becoming a music artist?

Sarah Wolfe: Being able to call myself an artist. I was so unconfident in my own abilities, but seeing it come this far has helped so much with my own anxiety and confidence, it has been the most incredible experience.

Question: Can you share your socials?
