Scarf Festival 2013

RMIT University textile students will display their innovative designs in the fifth annual Scarf Festival at the National Wool Museum, Geelong, opening this Friday (7 June).

The Diploma of Textile Design and Development students used wool as a key component in their pieces of 'body architecture".

As part of the sustainability-focused project, students worked closely with the Merino Company – who specialise in providing sheep to shelf traceability – and had the opportunity to witness the shearing of fine merino wool at a Victorian farm as well as visiting the Australian Wool Testing Authority in Kensington.

School of Fashion and Textiles Teacher, Lucy Adams, said the project helped the second-year students understand the economic and environmental impact of certain fibres.
