You've packed your bags, said goodbye to friends and family, and landed in the big city! Now what?! In her big city debut, Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure, Sharpay learns a thing or two about adjusting to life in the big city. Try these tips to help make your transition to big-city living a fabulous adventure as well!
Home Sweet Home: Find your best locale and a manageable place to call home - be sure you have the right surroundings for you. Sharpay's decorating efforts helped to define a place all her own so don't forget to feather your nest by creating a haven in your new surroundings.
Local Logic: Establish a local hangout, whether it's a coffee shop, library, park, museum or restaurant... it'll help to have a familiar place with familiar faces.
Read All About It: Check out the local paper or online listings to get a sense of the local social scenes, current issues, arts and activities and even areas you may want to avoid. Talk with neighbors and co-workers in your new city for suggestions of things to do and places to visit.
Explore Even More: Discover your city and take a few days to get to know your surroundings. Be sure to get a map app with streets and sites to carry with you. Drive around, or try public transportation - subways, busses, bike-routes - and familiarise yourself with your neighborhood. Find what works best for you then take some time and get lost!
Get Active: Build a social network in your new city by taking your hobbies and community involvement with you. Find organisations and interests in the big city that you were involved with from your small town. It's a great way to meet new people, have fun and to learn more about your new home.
Street Smarts: Use common sense by avoiding bad areas and dangerous situations. Be aware of your surroundings - especially if it's someplace that's unfamiliar to you. If you carry a purse or wallet, always keep it secure.
Take Care Of You: To navigate new surroundings and big changes, you'll need to be at the top of your game. Watch your diet, get exercise and be sure to get plenty of sleep. Pace yourself - you don't have to see and do everything in the first week.
With these basic tips, you'll be right at home in the big city... but it's all up to you!
