Designed to Drive Australians Further !
Shell Australia today announced the launch of its new Fuel Economy Formula across its Shell Unleaded, Unleaded 95 and Shell Premium Unleaded fuels. The new formula is designed to lead to improvements in fuel economy, particularly when used in conjunction with fuel efficient driving practices.
The launch of the new fuel formula is part of a wider program designed to help Australian motorists improve fuel economy through reduction of engine friction and improved engine cleanliness together with fuel efficient driving hints and tips.
The Shell Fuel Economy Formula is the latest result of an ongoing research and development program over many years, dedicated to discovering and designing products to take motorists further.
Jan Risseeuw, Shell Australia General Manager Retail says, "We believe that the new Shell Unleaded, Unleaded 95 and Shell Premium Unleaded fuels with the ?Fuel Economy Formula? will be welcomed by motorists in Australia. Through a combination of vehicle maintenance, fuel efficient driving styles and choosing the right fuel, it is possible to make a real difference to fuel economy."
"What?s more, we are absorbing the additional costs of this new formulation into the wholesale price,"he said.
These improved fuels are based on the same technology vital to the recent success of John and Helen Taylors? Guinness World Record for fuel efficiency. This technology, combined with Shell?s FuelStretch driving tips, allowed the Taylors to successfully circumnavigate 28,970kms around the globe in only 24 fill-ups -- achieving an average of 22.2 km per litre (4.5 litres per 100km), and surpassing all expectations of how well the fuel would perform. The Taylors used a standard car - a VW Golf FSI1.6 - breaking the manufacturer?s official consumption figures of 14.3 km per litre by 55%.
Based on a distance travelled of 14,000km per year (the average for Australian motorists) and current average fuel prices in Melbourne, this 55% improvement in fuel economy which the Taylors experienced in their VW Golf through use of their fuel specially formulated for the Challenge, in combination with Shell?s FuelStretch driving tips, would give them an annual saving of around $450.
"Shell is proud to offer this new formula to customers, helping to increase fuel efficiency and reduce motoring costs," said Mr Risseeuw.
"In the same way the Taylors set a new Guinness World Record for fuel efficiency we hope everyday drivers in Australia will see that it is possible to achieve improvements in their own fuel economy. In effect, we are giving our customers the products and driving tips to help them to buy less fuel!"
The new formula is part of Shell?s ongoing commitment to help its customers get the most out of their fuel, an effort that started with the development of fuel efficient driving practices shared by Shell under the name of FuelStretch driving tips.
The new formula fuels will be available progressively at Shell branded service stations nationally, including Coles Express, from today.
