Shimmerlands, the latest venture from the team at Shadow Electric, invite you behind the black curtain and into the world of such first-class music luminaries as The Rolling Stones, Nick Cave, Sharon Jones, LCD Soundsystem, James Lavelle, Oasis and more in their bursting 2017 outdoor cinema program.
Held in the tranquil grounds of the University of Melbourne, Parkville throughout January and February 2017, Shimmerlands' music documentary program is only a slice of their two-month season, which unites outdoor cinema, outdoor concerts, multiple bars and outdoor dining courtesy of some of Melbourne's finest restaurants.
Shimmerlands' stellar selection of music documentaries features the likes of Miss Sharon Jones!, a moving exposition of the larger than life persona of the late, great soul singer Sharon Jones and her journey with her band The Dap Kings; One More Time With Feeling, the accompanying documentary to Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds' globally acclaimed sixteenth studio album, The Skeleton Tree, documenting Cave's nigh-impossible reconciliation with the world around him following the tragic death of his 15-year-old son; The Rolling Stones' Olé, Olé, Olé, a part concert film and part travelogue rife with sex, drugs and hedonism; and The Man From Mo'Wax, a riveting journey into the life of James Lavelle, co-founder of the pioneering trip-hop label Mo'Wax and his meteoric rise to fame and despair.
Elsewhere on the bill sees Shut Up And Play The Hits, a venture into one of the world's most influential dance acts, LCD Soundsystem, and their last ever show at Madison Square Garden on April 2, 2011; Supersonic, a riotous time capsule illustrating the phenomenon of Britpop heroes Oasis in all of its debauched and capricious glory; and Our Vinyl Weighs A Ton: This Is Stones Throw Records, a captivating chronicle of Stone Throw Records' dynamic history through rare concert footage, never-before-seen archival material and inner-circle home video and photographs.
Over the two-month period, Shimmerlands will screen over 45 films within the University of Melbourne, Parkville. Single session tickets are $22 + BF and $18 + BF for concession.
