Spring/Summer Hair Trends

Spring/Summer Hair Trends are pointing in not one direction, or even two, but three very exciting and distinct looks; namely kinky, curly and straight!

And as always, VS Sassoon is delivering on the tools to help you create and interpret these looks easily and expertly at home so you can love - and live - your style!

VS Sassoon Expert Uros Mikic, Creative Director and owner of Adelaide's multi award-winning salon Kinky Curly Straight* (yes who better to talk about this trend!), gives insight into each of these directions and importantly how to achieve this directional styling at home! He also suggests the perfect tool to make it happen.

Trend: Kinky
'This year, hair is softer and more undone, rather than the structured, polished waves of the previous seasons," says Uros. 'Call it bohemian-inspired, but really it's all about texture and softness. We are after big loose waves, slightly undone, effortless and simple," he says.

How to:
Suggested tool: VS Sassoon Diamond Waves

Section your hair from top towards the ears to get a front and back section.
Create 3 sections on each side and 5 horizontal sections in the back. Using the waver hold it horizontally and wrap hair following the wand's waves. This will create a water wave effect.
Continue on sides and the back, holding each section for 5-10sec.
Hot tip - Use bigger sections for a looser and softer result. This tool is great for big waves.

Trend: Curly
'Think texture and lots of it! Imagine messy curls, undone, unpolished, lived-in, cool natural-looking curls. Don't be afraid to have fun with your curls, leaving some tighter and some really messy, getting that truly natural, textured feel," says Uros.

How to: Suggestion Tool: VS Sassoon Curl Secret
Section your hair into a front and back section and divide the parts into smaller segments.
Use smaller sections (about 1cm) feed through the Curl Secret. Using smaller sections will give you tighter curls as will putting the Curl Secret on its highest heat setting and longest timing setting. Your curls will also last longer that way. Run your fingers through the curls once they have cooled for a more natural and textured look.
Hot tip: Hair has to be 100% dry and smooth before using the Curl Secret for best and long-lasting results.

Trend: Straight
When looking at straight hair this season it's again about going for a softer look. We are staying away from very strict smooth hair that gives us that polished finish, instead going for softer and shiny natural looks. We want to achieve healthy looking smooth hair that looks naturally done, not over processed.

How to: Suggestion Tool: VS Sassoon Diamond Shine
Section the hair top to bottom for best results.
Slowly pass the Diamond Shine over each section just once; this will ensure you're not losing moisture from your hair. The good thing about the Diamond Shine is that it really does straighten in one pass!
Hot tip: Ensure your hair is completely dry before smoothing; this will avoid your hair going frizzy and having to redo it, causing it to become even frizzier.
