Sydney Opera House Summer Playground Line-up

Sydney Opera House is turning its prime outdoor spaces into the ultimate summer destination, with sand pits, performance art and all-round family fun by day, and cocktails, live music and dinner at night.

Architects of Air will take over the Opera House Forecourt this summer with a giant, inflatable, city-like sculpture encompassing a labyrinth of tunnels and inspiring spacious domes.

Sydney's beloved Taronga Zoo will offer kids the chance to meet and learn about native Australian animals.

In association with local theatre company Erth, dinosaurs will roam the Summer Playground. Children will be able to train indigenous spirit creatures leaellynasaura and turong – if they dare.

$25 Summer Tix will be offered every day in January to selected Summer at the House shows, including some sell-outs. These will be on sale from 9am at the Playhouse Counter and Tour Kiosk.

There will be more than 60 performances at friendly price points, including free entertainment and activities for families, children and adults.

At Lego on the House, Lego master builder Ryan McNaught will lead free outdoor workshops for two days. Also as part of Creative Play – our free, dedicated activity area for kids and families – the Opera House and Lego will create a -cumulative' public artwork, the Lego Wall. Children will be encouraged to help build a 3.5m high and 8m long wall, which will become a dramatic three-dimensional artwork over four weeks.

The renowned Opera House chefs will be serving up Brunch at the House. Sydneysiders and visitors can soak up the morning rays and harbour views while enjoying a special summer brunch menu.

The Opera House's family-friendly restaurants will educate and refine young palates with healthy, fresh and filling fare at Kids Lunch at the House. The carefully designed menu will help kids learn about new flavours.

The masters of healthy ice-cream, Liana Raine, will again deliver their artisanal popsicles in the coolest flavours of the season.

Sydney's food truck phenomenon will continue at Bennelong Point, serving the city's best street food on the Forecourt.

As the sun fades and the Opera House lights up, the one-hour guided Summer Sunset Tour will take visitors behind the scenes of summer's biggest shows and explore the fascinating 40-year history of the House.

The School Holiday Tour offers families a fun and educational adventure under the Opera House sails. The one-hour guided tour will reveal the secrets of this World Heritage-listed masterpiece. There will be quiz booklets and goodie bags for kids.

Sydney's most famous harbourside venue, Opera Bar, will be the city's favourite hangout and Opera Kitchen will serve fresh summer fare from Misschu, Cloudy Bay Fish Co. and Kenji.

The Flying Fruit Fly Circus will run circus workshops, giving kids a chance to work with the cast and director of Circus Under My Bed and culminating in a Circus Parade around the Summer Playground.
