Cronulla s beachside will be transformed into a sporting mecca for everyone when the southern suburb hosts the Sydney Water Challenge on the weekend of March 6 -8.

Designed for first-timers through to professional athletes, the weekend of multisport action is for anyone and everyone who loves to swim, ride or run. Five events feature during the three day festival, with Olympic distance triathlons through to races for kids and those just starting out.

FRIDAY FUN RUNS
The weekend s action kicks off on Friday at 6pm, with a tranquil sunset Fun Run for all ages (2.5 km or 5km) across the rich bushland of Lucas Reserve at Wanda Beach.

SATURDAY AQUATHLONS
Saturday is Aquathlon day featuring running and swimming events for those who are not all about the bike . The day begins with the Sydney Water Australian Aquathlon Championships at 8am, featuring an 800- metre swim off Bate Bay and a 6km run from Lucas Reserve.

If shorter distances are more your style, go for the Sprint- a 500m swim, 4km run; for first timers the Enticer- a 250m swim, 2km run; and just for kids, a race featuring a 100m swim and 1km run.

SUNDAY TRIATHLONS
Triathlon is the star sport on Sunday, representing a day of bustling, all-age action. Dawn will herald the start of the Sydney Water Olympic Distance Triathlon, including a 1500 metre ocean swim off Bate Bay (between North Cronulla and Boat Harbour); a 38.8 km cycle with two laps of a route that takes competitors from the beach to Kurnell and back; followed by an undulating 10km run.
Many age group competitors will be vying for qualifying points to gain selection in the Australian team for the World Championships on the Gold Coast later this year.
If this sounds a bit daunting, the last two races of the weekend are for you. At noon, the Sydney Water Enticer Triathlon gives first-timers a chance to try out what the growing sport of triathlon has to offer. The kids get a chance to shine with the St George and Sutherland Shire Leader TRYstars Kids Triathlon, with three distances to choose from for 7 to 15-year-olds.
