Returning for a second series on 6 August, SBS's The Chefs' Line is a fan favourite that celebrates multicultural food, flavour and Australia's rich and diverse food culture. With home cooks challenging an entire chefs' line from some of the best restaurants across the country, The Chefs' Line will explore the heritage, history and diversity that drives Australia's food ethos.
Each week, new participants and chefs from different backgrounds will showcase their skills with 10 different cuisines explored over 10 weeks Through these cuisines, this uplifting, warm and insightful series highlights the multicultural appeal of Australia's diverse food culture.
Each night, one judge will blind taste the dishes. The 'blind' judge won't know who cooked which dish, and they will ultimately decide which is the best plate on the pass.
The dishes will be judged by three of Australia's biggest culinary stars; executive chef Dan Hong, renowned chef Mark Olive and food writer Melissa Leong.
Marshall Heald, SBS Director of Television and Online Content, said: "Effortlessly diverse with different restaurants, cuisines and home cooks each week, The Chefs' Line challenges our belief of what makes a great cook – passion or experience?
"Educating and enticing viewers with its exploration of multicultural food, it's amazing and refreshing to see how much passion and raw talent there is from home cooks across Australia. We are meeting passionate people from all walks of life who are catering to our limitless desire for new tastes and flavours.
We also have a delectable trio of cooking talent in Dan, Melissa and Mark making the series an unmissable treat for everyone."
Chris Culvenor, Co-CEO of Eureka, said: "The passion and skill showcased in The Chefs' Line has struck a chord with audiences in Australia and around the world. Eureka is thrilled by the premiere of series two and that our partnership with SBS has launched an original Australian format to international success."
Each Monday is the first battle; four home cooks go up against the apprentice chef. On Tuesday nights, three home cooks have moved a step up the chefs' line and cook against the station chef. Wednesdays is always the penultimate battle; two home cooks take on the sous chef. Thursday night, is the final; the best home cook standing faces off against the restaurant's head chef.
On Friday, Melissa gives viewers a guided tour of the restaurant, and the chefs share stories from the week while tantalising with delicious recipes.
