With the revival of the domestic goddess and everything vintage or retro-inspired deemed 'oh so trendy' at the moment, aprons are back in a big way. Embroidered, lacy, patched, pleated, buttoned and beaded, they're coming out of the kitchen drawer and flirting with fashion. Launched at Craftfest in Sydney, the Great Apron Challenge is now bound for the Gold Coast.
The Great Apron Challenge is open to all who want to have a bit of fun making an apron! From a range of materials and products supplied by exhibitors, you'll have one hour in the 'Sew & Show Room' to whip-up your apron with sewing machines supplied by Bernina before parading it on the catwalk in front of a panel of judges.
Before you get behind the sewing machine, you'll have the opportunity to draw inspiration from a display of aprons created by our crafty exhibitors. All of which will be auctioned off at the final Craftfest for 2009 in Melbourne with proceeds raised going to charity.
The Great Apron Challenge will take place three times daily with three finalists announced each day.
One lucky winner will walk away with a brand new Bernina sewing machine. So, if you have ever wondered what it's like to be a part of a challenge like Project Runway, then this is your big chance.
If sewing isn't quite your thing, there's plenty of other crafts to get involved in and excited about at Craftfest. And with so much expert tuition on offer, you'll walk away from Craftfest a much wiser DIY diva. Get expert instruction and stock up on the latest products and tools to start making one-of-a-kind creations.
