The Hiding is Anthony Salce, Chris Salce and Ryan Di Cecco.
Question: What inspired Dream Catcher's Life?
Stream Dream Catcher's Life Chris Salce: Anthony and Ryan moved to New York for 3 months to be inspired and try and pitch our music to the US market. They moved to a rough part of Brooklyn called Crown Heights, which was where Ryan came up with the idea of Dream Catcher's Life when he was reflecting on the notion of living your dream and not settling for anything mediocre. You only have one shot at life, and it doesn't count if you conform out of fear. Conveying what people think is the ideal life, but knowing its ultimately not what's going to make you happy. Life is about doing what you enjoy, and enjoy doing it well.
Question: Can you tell us about filming the video clip?
Watch the video for Dream Catcher's Life Chris Salce: Anthony paired up with Damien McLindon (producer) and met with the aerial artists Didj and Phoebe. Damien and Anthony agreed that the video needed to be a 'story telling" concept and the use of aerial artist was going to illustrate and tell the story of the lyric and really emphasis the emotion behind the story and sharing that goal with someone special. A great warehouse/factory in Reservoir was perfect for the job and so many people came behind the concepts and helped it come to life.
Question: What should we expect from the performance at The Grace Darling?
Chris Salce: The Pennyfest show will be a party with a strong dance vibe, featuring the amazing voice of Stewart Winchester on a few tunes. We love getting some banter throughout the venue, but mainly we're aiming for a fun night to end the year.
Question: Did you have any pre-conceived ideas about the music industry?
Chris Salce: Yes of course. You always hear stories from people about their experiences within the industry, but we've always considered every option we've ever taken and you learn from mistakes that you make which if anything has made as stronger as a band.
Question: Do you write your own songs? What's your inspiration?
Chris Salce: Yes, we write all our own songs. Every now and then we collaborate or get some co-writing tips from others. It's all about real life experience and emotion. When good or bad things happen they trigger the emotion and away it goes.
Question: What music/artists do you listen to when you are not playing your own?
Chris Salce: We're really getting into the electronic side of production at the moment so acts like Boo Seeka, SAFIA, GodWolf and Northeast Party House are a big influence. Lyrically we love the story telling nature of what Gang of Youths do with their music, as well as how energetic and engaging their live set can be.
Question: What's next? Tour/Album/Single?
Chris Salce: Next year we definitely want to tour around a lot more. We have another collaboration in the works, a few more singles as well as working towards an EP to hopefully be released in the latter half of 2017.
Question: Was there a moment you contemplated throwing in the towel?
Chris Salce: This is something that has definitely come into our minds. Throughout the years we've changed styles, names, and put so much time and money in our music, so it gets so tough sometimes when you're riding the waves of the music industry. Every now and then you get a new person who believes in what you do, it can even be a fan that says something and you get back in the ring for a few more hits. We have had some exciting things this year happen, some great shows and opportunities, so we are more motivated than ever to make our fans proud.
Question: Do you prefer performing live or recording?
Chris Salce: We love performing live, but also love seeing the song form in the studio. If we had to pick one of the two, there is nothing more powerful for the soul than a solid live show where you and the audience are in perfect sync.
Question: What/who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?
Chris Salce: We all have day jobs but we are proud to say we are musicians, and love writing music and showing people.
Question: What is the biggest challenge you have faced along the way to your musical success?
Chris Salce: I guess the biggest challenge nowadays is trying to keep true to yourself and your stylistic approaches but accepting the trends that come and go. You want to be noticed but at the same time you've got to be true to yourself and where you wish to take yourself and your music.
Question: What's a typical day like?
Chris Salce: We try and reach a balance with all aspects of our life, but music is always at the forefront of our daily schedules. We love getting out to see some of our friends and favourite acts around Melbourne at gigs, but besides music we love getting to the gym and having a drink with mates.
Question: What has been your favourite part of becoming a music artist?
Chris Salce: Seeing people connect with our music is something we absolutely love. Creating a connection, whether that's on stage or through one of our releases, is a huge win for us
Question: If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?
Chris Salce: Lyrically we love what John Mayer does with his music, and the way he goes about the composition of a song is something we really admire and aspire to be like so it'd definitely be him.
Question: What is the story behind the band's name?
Chris Salce: The Hiding came about when we stylistically changed direction musically. We disappeared for 6 months, wrote, recorded and produced a new sound and image. We wanted a one-word style name that summed up where we were in life at the moment. Once we decided to show our fans our new music we weren't in 'Hiding" anymore and the new sound was exposed.
