Although The Smith Family is there for families throughout the year, Christmas is an especially important time for the charity because supporting children at Christmas is how the organisation began. It was Christmas 86 years ago when five
businessmen decided to donate toys to children at a local orphanage. The men were conscious that, although they had each had a 'good year' and their children would be well provided for, many children were not as fortunate.

The men decided to share their good fortune and spread some joy at a local orphanage on Christmas Eve. Wanting to remain anonymous, they called themselves 'The Smiths' and so The Smith Family was born.

The Smith Family's time-honoured tradition of giving toys and books to children at Christmas has grown over the years with The Smith Family now delivering gifts to more than 20,000 disadvantaged children across the country.

Woolworths is a proud supporter of The Smith Family and has donated food for Christmas hampers and organised staff volunteers to help pack and deliver the hampers. You too can help by purchasing a novelty light-up snow dome pen for $4,
or a light up keyring for $3 from any Woolworths supermarket. You can also make a donation to The Smith Family's Christmas Appeal by visiting www.thesmithfamily.com.au
or calling 1800 024 069.
Your support will ensure kids in need
won't miss out on a gift this Christmas.
It will also allow The Smith Family to
continue providing education support in
the year ahead.
