Burton's feature film directorial debut brilliantly combines a kinetic visual inventiveness - extravagant sight gags and whimsical set pieces abound - with the no-holds-barred persona of Paul Reubens' disarmingly single-minded man-child protagonist, Pee-wee Herman. It also marked the director's first collaboration with composer Danny Elfman, with whom Burton has made thirteen features (to date). Imported 35mm print.
