Titanium Come On Home Interview

There are six reasons why teenage girls have been screaming their heads off lately, and they are - Zac, Andrew, Jordi, Shaquille, TK and Haydn - better known as New Zealand's hottest boy band, the record-breaking, Titanium.

After two trips to Australia including a tour with local act At Sunset their Australian debut single 'I Wont Give Up" approaches GOLD status, they are releasing their #1 double platinum New Zealand single 'Come On Home" to radio and iTunes in August.

In addition they will be releasing a feature single that was penned and produced by Grammy award winning Los Angeles producer Toby Gad. Toby has also penned the Beyonce track 'If I Were a Boy" and Fergies single 'Big Girls Don't Cry" which was #1 for 21 weeks. (Toby has worked with Robin Thicke and Miley Cyrus plus many others).

The song called 'Unarmed" was co-written by USA band member Kendall Schmidt from supergroup -Big Time Rush' (Nickelodeon TV Series) who have sold nearly 5 million singles/albums worldwide and star in their own TV show around the world.

Some history back in New Zealand their single, -Come on Home', debuted at #1 on the New Zealand Top 40 Singles Chart. A few weeks later, their cover of Jason Mraz's -I Won't Give Up' also made its debut on the singles chart followed closely by the second official single, -Sky' – making Titanium the first New Zealand artist to ever have three songs in the New Zealand Top 40 singles chart at the same time. More recently they performed on New Zealand's X Factor and released their new single 'Tattoo" debuting #2 that night on the iTunes chart and #9 nationwide. The single will be featured on the Australian release along with other new bonus tracks.

Since their formation, Titanium have received more than one million views on YouTube; gathered an army of dedicated fans (who call themselves the -Titans') and supported acts such as Hot Chelle Rae and Cher Lloyd.

The members of the group were plucked from obscurity by The Edge radio station as part of their -Boy Band' competition in August last year, and it wasn't long before Titanium were setting the New Zealand charts on fire.

Not satisfied with resting on their laurels, Titanium has been hard at work in the studio finishing off their debut album for the Australian and international markets,

Come On Home single will be released to radio and online sales from 30th August Self-Titled Debut Album will be distributed via MGM Australia and available in-store and online September 27th.

Interview with Zac Taylor

Question: How would you describe Come On Home?

Zac Taylor: Come On Home was the first single we released in New Zealand about this time, last year. The song went to number one in the first week (gold) and is double platinum now. It was the biggest song of 2012 in New Zealand.

Question: How did it feel to hear your song played all over the airwaves?

Zac Taylor:
It's crazy to hear Come On Home! Come On Home to us will always be special because it was our first song and it's so cool that we get to release it here, in Australia. We've wanted to release our music in Australia, for so long, so it's another dream come true.

Question:
Can you tell us about filming the video clip for Come On Home?

Zac Taylor:
We've done some re-editing of the video of Come On Home for the Australian release to include more of who we are now opposed to who we were when we first released Come On Home. When we first released Come On Home it was about introducing us, Titanium, to New Zealand as individuals.

We are six boys from all around the world including South Africa, England, Africa, New Zealander and Singapore; we are a multi-cultured group. The Australian release will be a little bit different as there is new footage in the video.

Question:
Do you write your own songs? What's your inspiration?

Zac Taylor:
We have; we've been in Australia and in five days we wrote ten new songs that potentially will be for our new album that we are looking at release in Australia. We've been doing a lot of songwriting.

Question:
What should we expect from the upcoming album?

Zac Taylor:
It is still under-wraps as we are still deciding which songs will be released on the album and we have many to choose from. We've already released an album in New Zealand and we are still deciding if we are going to use some songs from that album for the Australia release. We are still deciding.

Question:
What music/artists do you listen to when you are not playing your own?

Zac Taylor:
Personally I enjoy Michael Buble, Usher, Michael Jackson and Justin Bieber – I listen to everybody.

Question:
Was there a moment you contemplated throwing in the towel?

Zac Taylor:
No, times do get hard and everybody goes through rough patches but if you love something as much as I do and the rest of the band does, you have to stick with your gut and go for it!

Question:
Do you prefer performing live or recording?

Zac Taylor:
I love performing live there is nothing else like it, the buzz you get when performing live you never get anywhere else. In the studio is where the magic happens and you've got to give your best performance; they're two different things but I love both of them.

Question:
What/who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?

Zac Taylor:
When I was five years old I saw a TV show with young singers on it and I told my Mum that's what I wanted to do and I kept doing everything I could to get on TV and eventually it all worked out and now I'm a member of Titanium! I love it.

Question:
What is the biggest challenge you have faced along the way to your musical success?

Zac Taylor:
In the last twelve months everything has been awesome. Coming over to Australia and getting a whole new fan base is overwhelming but everyone is so cool and supportive.

Question:
What has been your favourite part of becoming a music artist?

Zac Taylor:
I've had a lot of favourite moments, including opening for Hot Chelle Rae, Cher Lloyd and Will.i.am. Even performing on Sunrise, in Australia, on Valentine's Day; that is quite big as Australia's broadcasting network reaches the whole population of New Zealand!

Question:
If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?

Zac Taylor:
Wow, there are so many out there, I can't name them all as the list is so long but it includes Justin Bieber, Usher and Beyonce.

Question:
What is the story behind the band's name?

Zac Taylor:
When we were recording Come On Home we had no name, we were just -a boy band' and we were having lunch between recording sessions and our producer at the time suggested Titanium and I said 'Hey, I'm Zac Taylor from Titanium" and the boys liked it and started saying it too… and we decided then and there that Titanium was our name. I love the name, it's awesome and it is real bold, it stands out.
