Prahran Market will play host to the Ultimate Truffle Celebration Day on Sunday 8 July to celebrate Australia's Winter Truffle season.
Organised by Australia's foremost truffle specialists, Friend & Burrell and Prahran Market's very own Damian -The Mushroom Man' Pike, the event will explore the delights of Tuber Melanosporum – The Black Truffle - through a series of demonstrations by some of Melbourne's best chefs.
Example dishes being prepared are Blackmore's Beef Cheek with Smoked Celeriac, Shiitake Jam, Brassicas and Black Truffle by Daniel Girado and Roast Chicken with Black Truffle Jus by Steve Nairn.
The free event will centre around Prahran Market's Omega and Neil Perry Kitchen, where tasty and informative demonstrations will be held to create a series of exciting dishes to whet guests' appetites. Experts, including renowned truffle grower Peter Marshall, will be on hand to answer questions about this mysterious, yet surprisingly accessible food.

2pm: Steve Nairn – Head Chef, ESP by Scott Pickett
Prahran Market's traders will be joining in the celebration by selling truffle based products and dishes created especially for the occasion including truffle oil, ½ scallops, tapenade, mustard, butter, truffled eggs, truffled lamb mini croissants and even truffle ice cream!
Of course, visitors can visit Damian Pike Mushrooms and get some truffles to take home so they can put into practice what they've learnt and impress their friends and family with this unique ingredient.
