Tyla's 6-track debut is titled for its introspective hues. "Upon Reflection is a collection of songs that tell the stories of my life over the last few years, the highest of highs and some lows too," shares the singer-songwriter.
From full boar chicken pickin' to heartfelt balladry, Upon Reflection paints country music across a broad spectrum. Working with multiple producers - Rusty Crook (AUS), Andrew Capra (US) and Jared Adlam (AUS) - Tyla takes country's beloved traditional sounds and spins them for a modern audience.
"I made the decision to record with a variety of different producers on each track on the EP, as I wanted each song to be heard with different ears and produced with different perspectives."
The nostalgic 'If Walls Could Talk' visits the bittersweet feeling of home over a timeless acoustic soundscape. "It captures the comfort and joy of the past, reflecting on the love and laughter that was built in the place we grew up." The heartfelt track has already earned the singer accolades, landing Apple Music's 'New Music Daily, 'Aussie Country' and 'Country Risers' editorial playlists.
Opening tracks, 'Way out West' and 'Straight Outlaw' outline the darker side of love. "It can be an emotional roller coaster when the memory of somebody lasts longer than the time that you have spent with them," Tyla says of the former, a vulnerable break-up ballad. While 'Straight Outlaw' is a no holds barred dive into how relationships shape us.
At the EP's midpoint, the barn burning 'Wish I Would' looks toward the light at the end of the tunnel. The self-affirming song celebrates moving on. "Despite what they think, you can be just as great if not greater without them!"
The journey ends with tracks firmly rooted in optimism. 'Heart, Don't Fail Me Now' and 'I Believe in Roses' both radiate hope for an authentic kind of love. "It's about realising despite what you've been through before… Sometimes the heart can get it right."
After a handful of shows launching the EP to eager fans in September, Tyla is set unveil her new music at the Gold Coast's Groundwater Country Music Festival. Come December, she'll tour Australia and New Zealand alongside global star, Dylan Gossett in support of his 'The Back 40 Tour'.
Tyla Rodrigues' debut EP, Upon Reflection, is a testament to her versatility and emotional depth as an artist. With a unique blend of old-school country charm and contemporary flair, she brings a fresh voice to the Australian country music scene.
