VASSY Nothing To Lose Interview

Australian powerhouse singer, songwriter, and producer, VASSY, has officially topped the Billboard Dance Club charts with her new hit "Nothing To Lose." The song was written by VASSY and co-produced with Tiësto. Not only has it hit No.1 on the Billboard Dance Club charts, it has been No. 1 on U.S. Dance Radio, in the Top 10 of the Billboard Dance/Mix show charts, and has over 6 million streams.

The Australian native has collaborated with many talented artists including David Guetta, Diplo, Afrojack, Pitbull, Showtek, Benny Benassi, Nervo, and Don Diablo. VASSY's U.S. debut single "We Are Young" was the official trailer song for Disney's Oscar-winning movie, Frozen, the film Admission starring Tina Fey, and television shows including Grey's Anatomy, Pretty Little Liars, and Ugly Betty.

'Nothing to Lose" may have marked her first No. 1 solo dance record but her success is no coincidence. VASSY's catchy lyrics and distinctive vocals have been featured in campaigns for Victoria's Secret, Target, Sketchers, Nike, and Pepsi, while her captivating sound has fuelled some of the most timeless smash hits in electronic dance music. Most notably, her 7 x Double Platinum collaboration "BAD," with David Guetta and Showtek, rose her career into the spotlight and garnered her an IDMA award for Best Vocal Performance in 2015. VASSY proved to be a true triple threat when the following year she released her collaboration with Tiësto & Kshmr on their electro-house track 'Secrets," which met massive success, adding more awards and platinum certifications under her belt. Since then, VASSY has been taking over festival arenas with Tiësto during his 2016 Ultra, Electric Zoo and Tomorrowland sets, and she's unstoppable. After all, she's got Nothing To Lose!

Interview with VASSY

Question: How did it feel to top the Billboard Dance Club charts?

VASSY: It felt so good to have my third #1 on Billboard, it was an absolute honour and I was up against some huge names like Sia, The Weeknd, Rihanna, Bruno, Major Lazor ... so it's humbling.

Question: Do you write your own songs? What's your inspiration?

VASSY: Yes. I love to write from experiences in my life to come from a place of truth it's more authentic that way. Of course you can always embellish the story like they do in the movies.

Question: What music/artists do you listen to when you are not playing your own?

VASSY: I listen to everything from pop music reggae to classical jazz, dance and so on.... I like to keep it fresh!

Question: What's next? Tour/Album/Single?

VASSY: I'm getting ready to release my next single and I'm getting ready to come to Australia to promote my current record and I am excited to share it with fellow Australians. Then I'll be in Miami, for Winter Music conference.

Question: Was there a moment you contemplated throwing in the towel?

VASSY: Yes absolutely and I remember that year exactly. It was an extremely difficult time being I was struggling and going through a lot and I was this close to giving up and coming home, when I almost gave up something happened that changed my life and things have just continued to go up since then!

Question: Do you prefer performing live or recording?

VASSY: I enjoy both very much but performing live is the best feeling ever!

Question: What/who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?

VASSY: Billie Holiday she's the reason I moved to the US. I feel in love with the emotion in her voice.

Question: What is the biggest challenge you have faced along the way to your musical success?

VASSY: Starting all over again from ground zero having moved to the US and not knowing anyone. No one cares about you when you're a nobody... it can be lonely being away from family and isolating.

Question: What's a typical day like?

VASSY: Conference Calls, Studio, gym, emails, meetings ... there's never a typical day that's the thing with my life every day is different one day I can be doing shoots or meetings the next I could be doing interviews or working from home or traveling to a new city or country to perform. There is no real typical day because it always changes up there's no set routine! Like now I'm in LA for the Grammys; next week I'm in NY in the studio the week after I'm in Australia.

Question: What has been your favourite part of becoming a music artist?

VASSY: My fans I love them. They are the best feeling in my life. They give me so much love.

Question: If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?

VASSY: Pharrell would be cool, Pink, Calvin Harris, Daft Punk, The Weeknd, Mary J Blige, U2, Alicia Keys; so many!

Question: Do you have a website fans can visit?

VASSY: http://vassymusic.com/

Question: Can you tell us five things required for a happy healthy & enjoyable life?

VASSY: Love and passion
Food, water or wine
Laughter
Simple things like walk in the park
Family and friends

Maybe I cheated a bit here more than five (laughs)
