Walk The Walls Cronulla

The countdown is on to the biggest street art festival in NSW, with Walk the Walls Cronulla now only one month away.

35 street artists are locked in to transform this popular coastal destination into a gigantic outdoor art gallery, with more artists expected to be named in the line-up that will see over 40 street and laneway walls revived in early November.

Big names include; Tim 'Phibs', Ox King, Minna Leunig, Mulga, Alex Le Hours, Shannon Crees, Thomas Jackson, Elliott 'Numskull' Routledge.

The festival, jointly funded by Sutherland Shire Council and the NSW Government through a $75,000 Crime Prevention grant, has been carefully curated by internationally renowned 'Phibs' and this year carries the theme Sustainable Coastal Cronulla.

"We're so excited to be bringing Walk the Walls to Cronulla, as we saw how successful our 2018 event in Caringbah was, with over 5000 people coming to watch the street art unfold," said Sutherland Shire Mayor, Councillor Carmelo Pesce.

"There is no doubt our Cronulla event will be even bigger and better, working to reduce vandalism in the area and providing a boost to the local economy."

Creations will kick-off on Friday 8 November, with onlookers set to be treated to three days of aesthetic entertainment as artists work to finish their masterpieces before sunset on Sunday. A vast range of artistic styles will be on display, including street art, stencils, posters, sculptural works, pattern making, figurative, portraiture, abstract, illustrative and urban art, creating an art trail for all to embrace.

The 2019 Walk The Walls festival will coincide with Australian Music week, with a free community concert in Dunningham Park and musical activations taking place in various venues across Cronulla.

NSW Attorney General and Member for Cronulla, Mark Speakman said the NSW Government is pleased to sponsor the Walk The Walls event once more.

"I've no doubt it will build on the food, fun and fantastic art on display during last year's Caringbah festival, plus coinciding this time with Australian Music Week held annually in Cronulla," Mr Speakman said.

"This artistic celebration means thoughtless vandalism can instead be replaced by colourful artistic murals that the whole community can enjoy."

The event will be a drawcard for thousands of visitors and residents as local, Indigenous and national artists paint large scale murals across Cronulla. Surf Lane, Croydon Lane, Cronulla Street, Purley Place and the rail corridor are just some of the locations that will feature over the three day festival.

Council has once again worked closely with local businesses, community organisations, senior groups and young people in planning the event, which will also include live music and food stalls.

"This will be an event not to be missed and I'm thrilled that the state Government has recognised the success of past projects and is again making a strong commitment to crime prevention in our area," Mayor Pesce added.

An interactive map and event program will be released in the weeks leading into the event.
