Silent Morning Tea

Date:'Tuesday 2nd October'
Booking:03 9843 2056
From Tuesday 2nd October, silence will fall across the state as Victorians hold a raft of Silent Morning Teas featuring lots of cuppas but no gossip... at least none that you can hear.

Created by Scope to celebrate International AAC Awareness Month, the Silent Morning Tea encourages us to communicate in ways other than speech, to raise awareness about the different ways people communicate.

One in every 500 Victorians have significant speech difficulties. These individuals use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) which includes pointing to pictures or words, using facial expression, gestures and Key Word Signs and, in some instances, using a voice output machine.

All Victorians are being encouraged to host a silent morning tea any time across October to experience and appreciate the difficulties people without speech encounter on a daily basis.

Parkinson's Victoria will hit 88 miles per hour and break through the time barrier on Saturday 27th of October by hosting an exclusive charity screening of the 'Back to the Future' trilogy at The Astor Theatre in St Kilda.

This is one of those rare occasions where all three films will be screened together, since their original release in 1985, 1989, and 1990 respectively and following its 25th anniversary in 2010.

Back to the Future is one of the greatest, most popular movies of all time and stars Michael J Fox, who has been living with Parkinson's for many years.

The films are digitally re-mastered editions that will come to life on the Astor's state of the art Barco 4K 32B projector. This high-tech equipment boasts four times the resolution of the industry-accepted standard.

Get into the spirit of the event and come dressed as your favourite character or period from one of the films (1950s, 1980s, 1880s or 2015) and have a chance to win a fantastic prize.

There'll be other fun competitions on the day, the chance to write a special message to Michael J Fox, share your favourite 'Back to the Future' moment, the chance to meet 'Doc' and have your photo taken with one of the other stars of the film, the original time machine, the Delorean.

Booking:www.phillipislandcircuit.com.au/
When the 2009 Superbike World Championship begins at Victoria s Phillip Island on March 1, the grid will be practically unrecognisable from the one that lined up in Portugal s final round this year.

The absence of three-time world champion Troy Bayliss will be an obvious sign of change, but the field will also be peppered with an influx of quality new names, mostly British, as well as personnel changes and the addition of two marques which is certain to make the racing more even and competitive than ever.

Four Australians will contest the 2009 WSBK title dual world champion Troy Corser (BMW) and Broc Parkes (Kawasaki) in factory teams, Gold Coast s Karl Muggeridge on a satellite Suzuki, and Adelaide s Brendan Roberts aboard a privateer Ducati.

The Phillip Island round will officially kick off with practice and qualifying for the two world championship classes on Friday, February 27, before final qualifying on Saturday and the big races on Sunday two 22-lappers for Superbike and a single 21-lapper for Supersport.

Phillip Island will also play host to an all-new Superpole format for Superbike on Saturday afternoon, with the top 16 riders no longer racing for grid positions over one flying lap.

Instead, the top 20 riders in regulation qualifying will begin a process that takes in three elimination stints of 12 minutes each. After the first stint, the four slowest riders will be eliminated, and eight riders after the second stint. The third and final stint will see with the eight remaining riders go into battle for the final grid positions effectively the first two rows.
