UK comedian Ava Vidal will make her Australian debut at the Sydney Comedy Store in September.

After spending 4 years as a prison officer in the tough UK prison system, Vidal turned her hand to stand up after being inspired by American comedian Chris Rock. Her comedy has a distinctive point of view, influenced in part by her time spent behind the prison walls, as well as being a regularly expelled boarding school rebel, a teenage single mother, as well as the victim of domestic abuse.

This exhibition reveals the remarkable contribution that Australia's first Muslim community, from Afghanistan and British India, made to the exploration and settlement of Australia's arid interior. Cameleers assisted all major expeditions into Australia's uncharted interior starting with the Burke and Wills expedition in 1860 and have contributed significantly to Australia's economic and cultural development. Exhibits include fascinating photographs, camel saddles, historic clothing, textiles and original documents.

Melbourne Poets Union panel discussion: The place where we grew up and left behind continues to occupy a special place in our heart. Revisiting it is an experience which often awakes conflicting emotions, especially for those who have fled war or persecution, or who, as children, had no choice about leaving. Arnold Zable, in his latest novel, Sea of many returns, has written movingly about the experience. A panel of five writers and a moderator will explore this theme through commentary and through reading of their work. This will be followed by questions and comments from the audience, member reading and an open reading.

Pro-skateboarder, Corbin Harris is calling on local skaters to take part in a knock-out competition which he will be judging at the Monster Skate Park at Sydney Olympic Park.

Competitors will be treated to a demonstration from the world class skateboarder before being invited show off their own skills on the ramps. Flip Video Digital Camcorders will be used to record contestants who will be given the opportunity to win one of three Flip Minos valued at $299.00.

Winners of the competition will go home with a Flip Mino Digital Camcorder signed by Corbin. Monster Skate Park's iSkate Coaches will then do a tutorial for the competitors on how to execute Corbin's tricks.

Corbin Harris will be at Monster Skate Park from 10am on Tuesday 19th January to meet fans and sign autographs before judging the event.

This exhibition explores how the Kurdish culture has survived through adversity, invasion, and division of the Kurds' traditional lands. Survival of a Culture: Kurds in Australia examines the traditions at the core of the Kurdish culture that have enabled it to survive, and which Kurds proudly maintain in Australia today. 1. Make the short film (max 8min) and enter it in the Robin Anderson Film Awards.
2. Have your film (documentary or drama) selected as a finalist in any senior section of the Robin Anderson Film Awards.

What then?
1. Every finalist film will be viewed by a panel of Sydney Film School staff
2. A short list of finalists will be invited to an interview with Sydney Film School staff
3. One short listed finalist will be offered the opportunity to take up the scholarship.

This international exhibition offers visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in the stunning World Heritage site of Hampi in southern India. Using state of the art digital technologies, this new experience presents stereographic panoramas of an extraordinary site, with all its mythological, archaeological, artistic and historic significance. Ancient Hampi includes animations of Hindu myths and stories, aerial and projected photography, an immersive digital interactive space showing 360-degree panoramic images of the site and is landscape, as well as stunning night photographs of the temples taken by John Gollings.

Experience the sights and sounds of Chinese New Year at Sydney Fish Market (SFM) as it celebrates the 'Year of the Tiger' on Sunday, 14 February.

With a competitive-streak characteristic of those born in the Year of the Tiger, Wests Tigers NRL team will take on the SFM sponsored ACCA Dragon Boat Racing Team in a dragon boat match race on Blackwattle Bay.

Visitors can also admire the colour and movement of the Lion dancers in a traditional performance, said to bring good luck, happiness and prosperity in the New Year. Red and gold Chinese lanterns will line the market, with the colour red also a reminder of romance for Valentine's Day.

Come and see a model of the first successful industrial refrigerator (1857) developed by James Harrison of Geelong. An internationally significant invention, the refrigerator was used in breweries, hotels and distilleries throughout Britain, Europe, South America and Australia. This model was displayed at the Smithsonian Institution, Washington, United States of America, from 1964 to 2002 and is now on show at Scienceworks.

Sydney-area families looking for fitness, fun and excitement during the school holidays are in for the ultimate adventure when the first-ever Paddle Pop Adventure Park roars in to Sydney during the final weekend of January.

Beast Quest Tournaments are being held in participating bookstores around Australia on the 20th and 21st March, where fans of the Beast Quest series can participate in fun Beast Quest activities (such as Master of Trivia, Beast Quest Knockout and Design a Beast Champion), swap their Beast Quest collector cards with other kids, win loads of Beast Quest prizes, and have the opportunity to get their copies of Beast Quest series 6.

This year's Chalk Urban Art Festival, held in Church Street Parramatta from Thursday 7th through to Sunday 10th October, is shaping up to be another exciting event with an impressive line up of local and international artists confirmed and a full host of activities to keep all ages entertained over the school holiday period.

The four day festival, which is the largest of its type in the Southern Hemisphere, will feature a pavement art competition for artists from all over Australia, a mini chalk competition for the general public and interactive school holiday workshops.

Artists to showcase their talents at the festival include international guest artist Bernardo von Hessberg from Italy; Glenwood Illustrator and experienced Courtroom Sketch Artist Ala Paredes; Wallsend body painter Brendon Ussher; Wahroonga 3D animation specialist David Towey; Melbourne scenic artist and puppeteer Joe Blanck; Slovakian born artist Renata Cooper and Indian arts teacher Vishwanath Panchal.
