Emily In Japan

A $50 million exhibition of more than 200 works of Indigenous artist Emily Kame Kngwarreye, toured Japan in February 2008. It was the largest solo exhibition of an Australian artist to tour overseas.

This film examines the amazing impact the works had, taking the art world by storm in Osaka and Tokyo. It was all the more incredible considering the vast differences in cultural backgrounds of the artist and her admirers.

The exhibition was organised as a labour of love by National Museum of Australia curator Margot Neale, who saw firsthand the power and energy that Emily's work communicated to the Japanese in a timeless and universal language.

This communication has captivated people all over the world for 20 years, and is an interest that has not waned since her passing in 1996.

The Slammer

The Slammer is a variety children's show set in a fictitious prison for entertainers. The inmates are given the chance to earn their freedom by performing to a panel of children in the 'Freedom Show'. The children are asked to score each act and the winner is allowed to walk free. The Slammer is hosted by 'The Governor' (Ted Robbins) who always wears a white suit with a golden bow tie, and fulfils his duties by hosting the Freedom Show and occasionally quizzing audience members about their views on the 'Performing Prisoners'.

Dance Academy

This high energy teen drama follows six teenagers attending the National Academy of Dance. They're young, beautiful and have one year to prove their worth.

Seen through the eyes of Tara Webster (Xenia Goodwin) this isn't just about tutus and pointe shoes. This is the year Tara will leave her home on the farm and be tested not only on her abilities to dance but to love, build friendships, celebrate triumphs and endure disappointments.

When Tara enters the Academy she meets an eclectic group of dancers she will spend the rest of the year with. There is carefree Kat Karamakov (Alicia Banit) who couldn't care less about ballet, Kat's brother Ethan (Tim Pocock), the golden boy of the Academy, Abigail Armstrong (Dena Kaplan) the best dancer in Tara's year, Sammy Liberman (Tom Green) the Jewish boy with more girls as friends then boys and Christian Reed (Jordan Rodrigues), an adrenalin junkie who likes skateboards more than ballet.

Relationships will grow and change as they live side by side in the Academy's boarding house. They'll each take a different path, but they'll start to find out who they are and they'll all dare to chase their dreams.
