Zumba at Sydney Dance Company Studios

The worldwide Latin dance craze, ZUMBA®, has kicked off at the Sydney Dance Company Studios. The new class takes place on Saturdays at 11.30am and is lead by the four-time US Champion Ballroom Dancer Giselle Peacock, who arrives at SDC direct from the steamy Broadway show, Burn the Floor.

ZUMBA® is an exhilarating, feel-good and easy-to-follow dance and fitness class suitable for dancers of all levels. It combines high energy music with exotic, Latin-inspired dance moves that allow participants to achieve long-term health benefits, for both the body and the mind.

ZUMBA® is the accidental brain child of Alberto "Beto" Perez, a Columbian Fitness Instructor who one day turned up to teach an aerobics class without his usual music. Beto was forced to improvise using music from his backpack (salsa and merengue) and, in doing so, created a dance revolution.

Since inception in 2001, the ZUMBA® program has grown to become the world's largest and most successful dance-fitness program, with more than 12 million people taking weekly ZUMBA® classes in over 220,000 locations across the world.

Sydney Dance Company's ZUMBA® Instructor Giselle has devoted her life to the world of competitive ballroom dancing, training with some of the top coaches in the world, including Jason Gilkinson. She is the four-time United States Champion, two-time world representative, and came second in the Blackpool Dance Festival - known in the industry as the "Olympics of Ballroom Dancing". Giselle has trained and choreographed ballet, jazz, hip hop, both contemporary and modern dance, and has also appeared in So You Think You Can Dance, Dancing with the Stars, The Secret World of Ballroom Dancing and received a Bronze Medal in Superstars of Dance.
