Zumba Class
What is Zumba? Zumba infomercials are all over our televisions, although I was still very unsure as to what Zumba actually was. However, I was keen to give it a shot to find out exactly what Zumba meant! As I walked into the class I became nervous, I am definitely no dancer and my coordination isn't tip top.
Zumba is an aerobic fitness program created by a Miami choreographer that uses all different types of dance in an aerobic style to burn fat, calories and tone the body. Dance styles include Salsa, Merengue, Latin, Cumbia, Reggaeton, Calypso, Soca, Samba, African, Cha Cha and Hip Hop. The class is an hour of many mini dance routines. You begin warming up with a dance and end with a cool down dance. I found the music was very upbeat and that alone made me want to exercise and dance. It didn't matter that I wasn't very coordinated and I didn't end up caring what I looked like because I was having so much fun.
I took along some friends to laugh at and they ended up laughing at me, but still it was a lot of fun. I think Zumba classes are perfect for all ages and fitness types. You can put in as much or as little effort as you wish and you will still have fun. The more you put in the more you'd get out of Zumba, you don't have to shake your hips and you don't have to do the arms but it does make the experience all the more fun!
Honestly you don't have to have a lot of coordination; you just need to have a smile and a great instructor. I think the more times you participate in Zumba classes the easier it will be. You really don't have to know how to dance the instructor tells you what to do and you really just go for fun and I guess for exercise!
All you need to Zumba is comfortable clothes, water, a towel, a smile, a great attitude and the ability to laugh at yourself! Give it a shot- you'll enjoy it.
