For the first time, the Melbourne Museum and Sovereign Hill have come together to present -A Victorian Silhouette' as an official part of the 2017 Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival Arts Program.
On Wednesday 8th March, Sovereign Hill's Costume Department will present 1850s ladies daywear in fascinating detail. A Victorian Silhouette presents an evening behind the door of the boudoir to experience the secrets of the 1850s Victorian silhouette, and will showcase a range of fashions from the 1850s, including a wedding dress.
The show will also demonstrate how the 1850s silhouette was built through undergarments and foundation wear.
Costume is one of the most recognisable aspects of Sovereign Hill's interpretation of life on the Victorian goldfields and is a powerful exhibit in communicating how fashion, morality, etiquette and social structures have changed over time.
Presented in Melbourne Museum's award-winning exhibition The Melbourne Story, these stunning costumes will be surrounded by more than 1200 objects from Museums Victoria's humanities collection including Phar Lap, a Cobb and Co Coach and a Luna Park Big Dipper.
A Victorian Silhouette will be staged on 8th March from 6pm - 7.30pm at The Melbourne Museum, 11 Nicholson Street, Carlton.
