Adam Tyler
'Take it to extremes' isn't just a song to Adam Tyler, it's a way of life.
From an early age, the Missouri Native didn't so much enjoy music as absorb the mix tape in his head playing a continuous loop of artists as varied as The Fugees and the Spice Girls. He tried to go the academic route, and attended Boston's prestigious Berklee College on a talent scholarship. But soon decided that classwork wasn't visceral enough an experience.
After leaving school, the singer, now 21, was recruited by the creator of the boy band Youngstown for his new act and relocated to Los Angeles, once again, though, he found that he needed greater intensity that even the group dynamic could provide, and struck.
Now, having worked with a who's who of industry A-listers, including producers Deekay (Sugababes) and choreographer Stixx (Eminem). Adam has discovered his sound- electropop that's as cold-hearted as it is hot-blooded- and enlisted producer-songwriter Ellias Kapari (Ashley Tisdale) to juice his debut album 'Lullabies for Rattlesnakes'.
The CD includes four songs that Adam co-wrote, as well as contributions from Charlie Mason (V Factory), Daniel Volpe and Thomas Lipp (Monrose), and gust vocals by UK club Darlings Electrovamp, 'German Idol' superstar Fady Maalouf, American Hip-Hop chart topper Christelle and Sweden's 'Ace of Bass' The Provider.
Naturally, Adam isn't satisfied just to have created a collection of songs that will redefine electropop for the US ad beyond. While label-shopping, he's kept busy co-writing with such 'names' as Erik Lidbom (if not the bestselling songwriter in Asia in 2008, certainly one of them) and Mans Ek (Sarah Connor). He's also recorded a duet with Australian dancing queen Katrina Risteka (So You Think You Can Dance).
In his free time Adam keeps up with his admirers via his nearly two dozen worldwide MySpace street teams. Yes, that's a lot of fans for an up-and-comer who has yet to arrive. But then, it's no coincidence that another of his songs is titled 'Over the Top'.
Adam's music is smooth; the vocals combine with the music to create a track that produces a pop rock sound that will make you want to move. Listen to Adam Tyler's 'Lullabies for Rattlesnakes' even once, and you'll never be the same, neither will music.
Interview with Adam Tyler
How did it feel to hear your song played all over the airwaves?
Adam Tyler: The first time I heard my music playing out anywhere I was playing miniature golf, and I was so excited that it completely messed up my game score! I couldn't concentrate on the golfing at all!
Did you have any pre-conceived ideas about the music industry?
Adam Tyler: I had an idea that it was really cut throat and I knew a lot of artists that were extremely talented but never really made it, but I didn't let that stop me at all! I knew this was exactly what I wanted to do and nothing else!
Do you write your own songs? What's your inspiration?
Adam Tyler: I do write my own songs, and while not every song on my album is co-written by me, I helped write 4. I've been writing a ton of songs for other artists lately... I love it and always try to write at least a song a day! I'd say my inspiration for songwriting comes from everyday experiences and other artists that I listen to on a day-to-day basis.
What music/artists do you listen to when you are not playing your own?
Adam Tyler: I'm a huge fan of Lady Gaga, and I've been into European music since I was a little kid. I love Girls Aloud, Sam Sparro, Depeche Mode, Sugababes, Britney Spears, and Robbie Williams. As for Australian acts, I love Kylie Minogue, Delta Goodrem, Natalie Imbruglia, and I even have both of Bardot's albums!! Australia has some amazing music!
What's next? Tour/Album/Single?
Adam Tyler: Hopefully some touring/live performances are in store for me in 2010, along with my first single release!
Was there a moment you contemplated throwing in the towel?
Adam Tyler: When I first moved out to California to be a part of a boy band, I didn't really know what to expect since I had never been a part of anything like that before. I was in the group for over a year, and when I realized the boy band wasn't the place for me, after wanting it for so long, it was hard. But I never though about quitting music. It was more about readjusting things, and now I'm happier than ever!
Do you prefer performing live or recording?
Adam Tyler: I love being in the recording studio so much! Working with different, amazing producers and engineers, and making some killer music... it's a dream!
What/who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?
Adam Tyler: I think when I was little, I saw the Spice Girls on TV and noticed how amazing what they were doing was. Singing and dancing for a job? Sign me up!
What is the biggest challenge you have faced along the way to your musical success?
Adam Tyler: Probably just getting over insecurities I have with myself. Everyone has their own insecurities, so I think once you're happy with yourself, then everything just becomes a lot easier.
What's a typical day like?
Adam Tyler: A typical day for me is usually filled with music! When I'm not recording or writing songs, I'm listening to them on my stereo and dancing! I also spend a lot of time promoting myself everyday... just got to get my name and music out there! I also eat a ton, so a typical day usually consists of about five different meals, haha!
What has been your favorite part of becoming a music artist?
Adam Tyler: My favorite part has definitely been recording my album! Recording sessions are always a blast and my producer really knows how to get the best vocals out of me. I've been blessed to be able to work with Elias, my producer, and I'm so proud of the music we've made so far!
If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?
Adam Tyler: I would absolutely love to collaborate with Lady Gaga. I think she's a genius and insanely talented.
Are you single? What do you look for in a partner?
Adam Tyler: I am currently single at the moment, just trying to focus on my music! What I look for in someone is confidence, a sense of humor, and someone who likes to have fun!
Do you have a website fans can visit?
Adam Tyler: I do! I have quite a few actually!
www.adamtylerofficial.com and
www.myspace.com/adamtylermusic are my two main sites, and both have music, pictures, and a whole lot more!
Can you tell us 5 things required for a happy healthy & enjoyable life?
Adam Tyler: Food, music, love, sleep, and something you're passionate about.
Food because... obviously you need to eat to survive, and watching what you eat and eating healthy will benefit you for the long run.
Music because I think everyone loves some kind of music out there, and music does have the ability to bring people together. It can make you feel things as well, and I think it makes life so much more enjoyable.
Love is needed because a life alone seems like a sad one, especially with all that's out there in the world.
Sleep because you need to be rested and not completely where your mind and body out!
And if you find something that you're passionate about and stick with it, you'll always be doing something you love and I really think that will make your life happy, healthy, and enjoyable. It's really all about balance, and you just need to be able to balance work and play and everything else, and life will be nothing but enjoyable!
What message would you like to say to your fans?
Adam Tyler: Thank you for all the support so far and you're really helping make my dream into reality! I hope you love my music as much as I do! And if you haven't heard it yet, I hope you enjoy it! And remember to always believe in yourself and follow your dreams, because they can come true! Take it from this small town boy!
