Alfie Templeman has today revealed the exciting news that his upcoming EP Happiness In Liquid Form will be released globally on 15 July via Chess Club Records. In celebration, the 17 year old wunderkind has shared another slice from the EP with brand new track 'My Best Friend' featuring Jess Eastwood of Chess Club labelmates Coach Party.
Templeman's latest vibrant single and the EP's title track 'Happiness In Liquid Form' was co-written with Justin Young of The Vaccines and was named Annie Mac's 'Hottest Record in the World' on BBC Radio 1. The single has since enjoyed more than a quarter of a million streams, 900 Shazams within the first 72 hours and coverage across FLOOD, NME, Dork, Line Of Best Fit, Clash, and DIY as well as a spot add to triple j.
Happiness In Liquid Form follows Alfie Tepleman's trio of rapturously received EP's - 2018's Like An Animal, and 2019's Sunday Morning Cereal and Don't Go Wasting Time - which introduced the world to a prodigiously talented young musician, songwriter, producer and performer. The Bedfordshire-born teen has enjoyed a meteoric rise and cemented his place as one of indie's brightest lights.
Describing the inspiration behind 'My Best Friend', Templeman said, "It's about depression and sadness being the only thing that's always there for you, as if it's the only thing that really sticks around and lurks behind everything you do. It's as if these feelings are the closest thing to you, like your best friend." Eastwood adds: "I instantly related to Alfie's lyrics and the meaning behind it. Let's be real, we all get sad, it never does leave permanently, so making a song about it and taking a different look on it is a really cool move, not to mention it's a shit hot tune. I feel incredibly lucky to feature on it as Alfie will defo have a legends slot at glasto in 30 years.
Templeman has come a long way since the release of debut track 'Like An Animal'. He was handpicked by Apple from a global shortlist of rising artists to front their #shotoniphone campaign last year - the music video has now amassed 2.5 million views - and was chosen by YouTube Music to be a worldwide 'Foundry Artist' in 2020, following in the footsteps of artists such as Dua Lipa and Rosalia, featuring on 90 foot billboards in Times Square in NYC and Central LA.
In February this year, Templeman was H&M Artist of the Month in the UK, with accompanying store visuals and playlist support. Alfie Templeman made his headline bow in January this year at Colours Hoxton, selling-out the venue weeks in advance and performing to an adoring, rowdy young audience. Templeman also toured the U.K. with Sports Team on their sold-out run of shows in November and December 2019 and likewise with Inhaler in Manchester and London and Nilufer Yanya in Dublin.
Templeman, who began playing drums at just 7 years-old and taught himself guitar, bass and production aged 13, has drawn praise from tastemakers worldwide. The Happiness In Liquid Form EP is the exhilarating next chapter in the story of an artist who is truly only just getting started.
