Darcie Haven Unleashes Haunting New Single 'Hounds'

Raised on a farm in a remote corner of Western Australia, singer-songwriter Darcie Haven found her voice learning to sing and play guitar with Missy Higgins CDs and Taylor Swift songbooks. Her music blends raw, unfiltered lyricism with sharp indie-pop production, creating intimate yet universally relatable songs. Since her breakout debut in 2022, Haven has garnered industry and radio acclaim, earning the Triple J Unearthed Feature Artist title. In just over a year, she has supported renowned acts like Vance Joy, DMA's, Birds of Tokyo, San Cisco, and Alex Lahey, while amassing a loyal online following captivated by her honest storytelling.

"Hounds is maybe my favourite song I've ever written. I'm always trying to push myself to be more honest, more brazen, more detailed, and I don't think I've gone into more granular detail about the insides of my brain in a song before now. It's an x-ray of what anxiety looks like for me. It's about my relationship with my sister, my Mum, my friends, and how you can be fighting a battle in your head without any of them ever knowing."

This haunting ballad dives deep into the overwhelming anxieties of early adulthood. With lyrics that effortlessly swing between metaphor and stark reality, Haven invites listeners into the darkest corners of her thoughts, making the track both devastatingly relatable and profoundly moving. Her emotive voice cuts through pulsing, acoustic production, channeling the raw vulnerability of early Phoebe Bridgers and Holly Humberstone while carving out a sound that is uniquely hers.

Darcie Haven's artistry has already caught the attention of major outlets, with features in Rolling Stone, The Guardian, Women in Pop, Happy Mag, The West Australian, Livewire, Milky, and The AU Review. She's graced stages at festivals like SummerSalt and WA Day, and has earned spots on playlists such as New Music Friday, Indie Arrivals, Local Noise, Fresh Finds Indie, and Coast to Coast. Her collaboration with Holy Holy on their track 'Cellophane' on the song 'Heroes' showcased her versatility, while her 2.6 million likes on TikTok and 400K views on YouTube underline her growing fanbase.

The accompanying music video for "Hounds" brings the song's themes to life in a raw and visually striking way. Shot over two days, the video moves between an abandoned railway tunnel, a secluded bushy creek, and a northern forest. Drawing inspiration from dark, moody aesthetics akin to the Twilight Saga, the video follows Haven as she runs from her demons, chased through tunnels, water, and dense forest with no clear resolution or escape in sight.

"We wanted it to feel equally stressful and beautiful," Haven explains. "Even though I jarred my finger against the tunnel wall and woke up with close to five hundred bug bites on my legs from sitting in a creek for four hours, I loved every second. The video is exactly how the song looks inside my head, and I can't describe how satisfying that is."

Directed by Stephanie Senior, the video perfectly captures the eerie and introspective energy of the song.

"Hounds" marks an exciting new chapter for Darcie Haven. With this release, Darcie continues to carve out her unique sound, blending haunting yet hopeful melodies that have captivated audiences across Australia.
