All Our Exes Live In Texas Stand With Kesha
July 6 is an exciting day for All Our Exes Live in Texas. Overnight, superstar Kesha released a single, 'Praying", destined for the top of the charts and featuring the powerhouse voices of our favourite Australian foursome. No strangers to brushes with pop icons, after touring with The Backstreet Boys and most recently Australian rock royalty, Midnight Oil, the ladies "sung their hearts out" on the track and stand wholeheartedly with Kesha, celebrating her return, her strength and her resilience. Truly, Queens helping Queens. "We can finally share with you a collaboration we are so proud of," Georgia Mooney, says. 'As an all-female band, we are aware of the challenges facing women in the music industry. The more we heard about Kesha's story the more horrified, heartbroken and furious we became. We are extremely proud to be the backing singers on her incredible new song. A song that chooses forgiveness and love over hatred and revenge."
How did this all come about? "Through the Sydney music community I was approached to help source a choir for a recording session with Ryan Lewis, when he was in town on tour with Macklemore," Hannah Crofts, says. 'I have always loved the notion of All Our Exes Live in Texas performing regularly as harmony singers with various artists and I jumped at the chance to pitch my band – ''Don't get a choir! Get us! We are four-part harmony heaven!'"
"Before we knew it our manager was setting up session times and we were flying back from various corners of Australia to get in the studio with Ryan and Ben Abraham who co-wrote this killer song. It was a dream!"
After recording the demo with Ryan Lewis late last year at 301 Studios in Sydney, Australia, Kesha listened to The Exes' haunting harmonies and it was decided the backing vocals would stay.
"It's always a little daunting to be in a session with experienced producers and Ryan Lewis is clearly a big deal!" Katie Wighton says. 'But we instantly felt welcome and with Ryan's amazing energy, it was an explosive time! Our favourite thing is to sing in harmony together and this session was epic wailing, heartbreaking harmony delight."
Not to mention the fact that fellow Australian singer-songwriter Ben Abraham is a true wonder. "Ben Abraham is one of the most warm and generous artists we have ever worked with," Elana Stone says. 'He made the session an absolute breeze and standing around the piano singing harmonies on this power ballad was fricking special!"
Four powerful feminists, women holding their own and doing it their way, All Our Exes Live in Texas could not be prouder to be part of this comeback track: 'We sang our hearts out on this. We stand with Kesha."
