Rockstars of Australian children's literature Andy Griffiths and Terry Denton will bring their endearing sense of silliness, live illustrations and a Guinness World Record attempt to the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall stage on Saturday 20 October 2018.
Long-time friends and collaborators, the much-loved author and illustrator duo are best known for their millions-selling Treehouse books. The eighth and latest installment, The 104-Storey Treehouse will be the subject of their conversation as they discuss the newest 13 storeys they've added to their gravity-defying adventure. While Andy captivates the crowd with hilarious tales, Terry will draw alongside him via giant projections. Their charismatic friendship remains on show as they try to outdo each other to build more and more unlikely storeys based on ideas fielded from the audience.
As well as enjoying the antics on stage, audiences will be invited to participate in even more wacky fun as the Sydney Opera House attempts to break the Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of people dressed as trees. The record is currently held by the Jayam Ideal Youth Group in Mumbai, India with a forest of 1000 costumes. The Concert Hall boasts a capacity of over 2000 people so there will be plenty of room for kids to stretch their branches in an attempt to break the world record.
Sydney Opera House Head of Talks and Ideas, Dr Edwina Throsby, says: "Andy and Terry are basically the Lennon and McCartney of the Australian Under-12 set. My excitement at welcoming them to a super-amazing-tree-filled-Guinness-world-record-breaking-mega-fun laugh fest at the Sydney Opera House is eclipsed only by the excitement of my eight year old daughter. Everyone who wants to see the process behind the creation of their wonderful books should come along to see the REAL Andy and Terry, hilariously live on stage."
