Ani-K Plan B Interview

Ani-K Plan B Interview

Plan B is an up-tempo, hooky/dynamic song

At 14 years of age, Ani-K is without a doubt one of Australia's hottest rising stars. Hot off the back of numerous charting achievements and national airplay, Ani-K returns to the airwaves with her latest single release Plan B.

Written by Ani-K and Stuart Stuart (Veronicas, Sheppard), Plan B is an up-tempo, hooky/dynamic and powerful pop song with a lyrically personal twist.

'The inspiration behind Plan B was quite personal. It reflects a few relationships I've had in the past, and the feeling of always coming second. For me, it's about giving a person one last chance to change something before they lose you. It's unbearably frustrating, but there's also something darkly amusing about the situation that I wanted to capture too,' explained Ani-K.

Plan B is out now through iTunes and all good online music stores.

Interview with Ani-K

Question: How would you describe your music?

Ani-K: I would describe my music as pop with lyrics that centre around issues and life experiences you face growing up. I try to make it self-empowering and dancy!

Question: What originally inspired your passion for music?

Ani-K: I've always loved to sing, and I think as I got older that passion broadened and started to take shape, and begun to include writing my own music.

Question: What difficulties have you faced as a young female in the music industry?

Ani-K: It's been quite hard being a young artist in the music industry, as some people struggle to take someone my age seriously, which can be very frustrating. A lot of big corporations are hesitant to support me because I'm an independent artist and I'm quite young, but that doesn't mean I'm any less capable.

Question: You describe Plan B as a 'personal" song, can you tell us about the inspiration behind this track?

Ani-K: Plan B came from my own life experiences, and the feeling of coming second in a relationship or friendship. I wrote it at a point where I had had enough, and it was basically the last chance I was willing to give that person before I found something better for me. I tried to take an experience that I had and make it into something that a lot of people can understand and relate to.

Question: Which is your favourite song to perform live and why?

Ani-K: I love singing my song Close Anymore live because that song is really special to me and it's one of my favourites that I've written. It's really honest and I love that about it, and I feel like it's something that everyone can understand while it's also really specific to me.

Question: If you could have anyone, in the world, attend your show, who would it be?

Ani-K: I would love for Rihanna or Frank Ocean to come to my concerts, although I'd probably pass out from nerves, because I love their work and respect them so much as artists. I'd also love to meet Adele or Ed Sheeran as well as they're artists that I grew up listening to and I probably know all the words to their songs.

Question: Do you prefer performing live or recording?

Ani-K: I think I prefer performing live to recording because that adrenaline rush is amazing and I love being able to directly share my music with people, so definitely live performances for me.

Question: What is the story behind the name, Ani-K?

Ani-K: There isn't much of a story behind Ani-K! Ani's a childhood nickname of mine, and we wanted to spice it up a little so the K was added. Even now, everyone still calls me Ani, which can get a little confusing!

Question: What motivates you most when writing music?

Ani-K: I think I'm motivated to write by what's happening in my life, so my friendships often become the subject of many of my songs. I try not to be too direct when if I'm writing about bad experiences because that could get very weird!

Question: Which music/artists are you currently listening to?

Ani-K: I'm currently obsessed with some more alternative RnB, like Frank Ocean or whatever I get recommended on Spotify. I've also been having a bit of a throwback month with some older music, which has been great too. I'll basically listen to anything!

Question: What or who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?

Ani-K: My inspiration to go into the music industry was basically my love for music! I really wanted to explore the realm of possibilities and find out what I could do and who would be willing to listen to it, and I think that's what got me hooked.

Question: If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?

Ani-K: I would love to collaborate with Ed Sheeran or Adele because they're massively talented and I respect them so much as artists. It would be a pleasure to be out-sung by them!
